88 King Of The Hill ZR1 EX5023 Thread
Went through all of the boxes of parts that Geoff kept when he dis-assembled the car. Some nice surprises! A nice set of 88 dated wheels plus two extra 89 ZR1 wheels.

[QUOTE}This roughly cut hole was for some wiring during a project, according to Geoff.
http://i53.tinypic.com/2r5timo.jpg QUOTE] Hole was for this. The item in rear is an ecm with spaces for 5 different calibration chips selectable by dip switches. The other item was velcroed to the dash and was used to read various engine data. There was wireing that was used to remote the ecm to the hatch area through that hole. The picture was taken at Geoffs shop in 98? He used the items to do the calibration to meet emission control levels when he worked for Lotus. http://deliquescence.net/~tyler/prot...gEquipment.jpg Wonder where that equipment is. LOL Tyler |

Got the estimate going for the roll over hoop and windshield frame today. Not going to waste any time on this part of the project.

Brett, Looks like fun...

Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
It was Xmas in Nov today. Picked up these two NOS pieces for the rebuild, plus three empty birdcages that were used by General Tire, Marion, IN for panel fitment. GT made panels for GM. The three birdcage/frames have never been stamped with a vin. Great race car parts. One birdcage/frame will be canilbalized at the frame shop so EX5023 can be made whole again. Roll over hoop and windshield frame parts.
What were the odds of coming across an NOS ZR1 rear upper surround panel and luggage tub??? http://i52.tinypic.com/1059x4z.jpg |

Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
Just purchased a Blue/Blue 87 for interior and anything else needed for trim. My car was built in July 87 and this car has everything needed to trim the car out. Even a glass top, carpet kit and seat covers in the box. The fella that had the car wanted to help contribute to bringing the ZR1 back to life. His name is Brian Russell. Super guy.

Yep, only about 30min from me. The parts had been sitting outside for over two years. I bought the rear bumper last May. |
Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
Got my 87 Blue/Blue donor car today. Perfect for all the interior trim and under hood small components. Even has the blue tint glass top and an unmolested dash. New capet kit and seat covers in the box. Radio and electronic heat/air work.
This is going to be fun!! |

The cars were to have manual AC as standard. George

Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
I have the original heat / air unit. I was just amazed that everything in the 87 car actually worked. Very happy about that. The 87 was a good find!:dancing

Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
Well, EX5023 goes to the frame shop tomorrow. When it comes home, it will have all of the panels on it as well as the windshield. Pics to follow.:dancing

one of the most exciting projects I have seen! Check out my rear rims - they look to be pre production 87 date stamped one piece rims!:jawdrop:

How does that ever get restored? Excuse my ignorance but that just looks totalled to me. Good luck though!

Please excuse me but I am new to forums - photos are not my cup of tea - I am learning though.... I have some photos on my album. Not sure which is the date code, but on one of the rims (stamped)AA0887 the other (stamped)AA2187? I have pics of interior of wheels - some codes are stamped and others case into the rim. I will try to put pics on ASAP! these are small

Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
Great looking wheels. I'd love to have them.
Welcome to the forum! |
Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
They look like 88 Prototype wheels. The dates are on the inside of the rim, and would be parallel to the ground if mounted on the car.
On an 1989 Pilot/Unreleased ZR-1 the date code looks like this: http://www.syreal.com/89pilotrim.jpg On an 1988 Protoype wheel the date will look like this: http://www.syreal.com/88prototyperim.jpg Eric |
Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
It looks like the dates are on his sheels. The AA is most likely SHIFT. The dates follow the shift.
What do you think, Eric? |

That could be just for the center section... I think the completed unit date is the one I listed above. |

Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
Thank you for all the input! My rims have no DOT stamps - only the back side of face have casting marks and stamp marks - Looks like the pics you show are the production ready 3 piece rim welded behind the face of the rim - the ones I found are one piece . They have a machine outer face - inside face looks cast - rest of the rim is machined maybe out of one piece - I was going to refinish and put them on my 88, but am wondering without DOT stamps it might not be the best idea? Not only that but these could have a very interesting history!

Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
Being that I have an actual 88, I would be interested in them if you were ever to sell them. I have a pair of 11" 89 pre-production wheels that I would trade you for them.
|
Re: 88 ZR1 EX5023 Thread
Heres the question, whats the market price for these wheels, pre-production 89 on ebay (1) 17X11 is $575.00 plus shipping.
