Weather strip replacement
Can anyone in the area recommend someone to replace weather strips and window sweeps? I don’t mind traveling a little. I’m just looking for someone to do a good job.
TIA, Mike. |
Re: Weather strip replacement
Not familiar with MA, but I bought the window sweeps and side window seals and from my experience they should be done by a reputable company or GM. If it is done wrong, the side windows will scratch. $$$
The moldings are available everywhere for Corvettes. You just need to decide on how original you want to go. There will be other members who have done them and they will give you the scoop! Otherwise, get out and enjoy the Corvette weather. Lou Lou |
Re: Weather strip replacement
I hear you Lou. Wilcox seems to have decent ones at good prices. I definitely have concerns with just having whom ever do the job. Like you said the last thing I want is scratched windows or worse yet someone going too far while drilling out the rivets. Hopefully someone in the area will have a suggestion. I wouldn’t mind traveling a little if necessary.

Re: Weather strip replacement
Cvette98pacecar used to have us hooked up with covetterubber. Not sure if that channel is still open or not.

Re: Weather strip replacement
Hey Steve I hope you’re doing well.
I’ll definitely look into that. Do you have anyone up your way that you’d trust to change them all out? |
Re: Weather strip replacement
Chris at Traffic Jamz, they do a lot of interior work, i.e. custom stereo work. 603-627-1530
Or Motorcar alternatives. More of a general mechanic, but their work is impecable. 603-622-6434. Ric doesn't want my pain in the azz car in the shop, so I hire his mechanic Jeff on the side, which is a win for me. |
Re: Weather strip replacement
Thanks Steve. I appreciate it.

Re: Weather strip replacement
No problem Mike. Headed on any of the trips this year? I'm leaving for MR6 Friday.

Re: Weather strip replacement
Unfortunately I don’t think so. I’ll actually be up your way for a wedding in June. Not sure how close to Gregg lake you are but I’ll be there the weekend of the 15th. If you’re close enough I’d be happy to buy you a beer while we’re there.

Re: Weather strip replacement
15th of May? I'll be in the Smokey mountains somewhere.
|
Re: Weather strip replacement
Never mind, you said June. I'm around on Friday, but headed to South Carolina on Saturday.

Re: Weather strip replacement
Mike
I'd think any competent body shop could change the weatherstripping. You don't really need a Corvette specialist. There's lots of weatherstripping available, people here can direct you to a good supplier. Or, it's not that hard to DIY... |
Re: Weather strip replacement
15th of June. I would also entertain another track day sometime if you’re interested?

I’m sure you’re right. I know my luck however, and my biggest fear is getting “the part time kid” because it’s not anything too extensive. I’ve read good things about second gen restorations in walpole and that’s fairly close by. Will you be back at gillette this year? I’m almost positive I saw your car there a couple of years ago. I wish I found you so I could’ve introduced myself. |
Re: Weather strip replacement
I try to make it to Patriot Place a couple times a season.
I'll post up here prior to. Maybe we can interest some more NE ZR-1s? We had a NE Group GTG there a few years ago. |
Re: Weather strip replacement
Mike, I'd be up for another track day sometime. Work has just been so busy lately.

Steve, I hear you on the work thing. Building is insane down here. Every day is like a 10+ hour sprint. I’m actually on vacation the week of Memorial Day. Maybe if the weathers good we can do another street night. I’d love to see your car go now that Pete’s worked his majic. I’m betting 125 mph trap speeds on a cool night. |
Re: Weather strip replacement
I guess its time to run again. I bet my helmet is out of date code. Dyno says 451 at the wheels.
|
Re: Weather strip replacement
My dyno sheet says 390 rwhp and I’ve trapped 118 and change. You have another 60 rwhp. I’d think equal conditions that should add another 6 mph at the end. You’ll be hauling the mail for sure.
