ECM Labels "SNAPSHOTS" & confirmations

1 Attachment(s)
Last year 5/2014 "Jetjock" asked information for ECM labels for a '93 and there was limited response. On the CF there's been interest in the past and seems maybe more recently. Perhaps it would be of interest to all if snapshots of labels be posted in a single thread with reference to car # and build date. It would certainly I believe help those that have interest in maybe a snapshot reproduction suitable maybe for use on their car.

I don't know that it's NOT already in a Registry information document or if it is maybe a message tagged to this thread would generate interest.

Good thread.

"AUAH" is the 2nd of 3 prom calibrations for 1990, released 27Sep89.
The last calibration, "AYBK," was released 03Nov93.

Jerry - Using mine as an example I always thought the 3d line was actually a DELCO assigned part # for the "production" PROM OR ASSEMBLY on their assembly line. M92XXXXX could likely be a "date code" but I had never attempted to convert and actually had little/no interest.

M - PERHAPS THE PRODUCTION PLANT (Milwaukee Wi fits), 9 - YEAR, 214 - Julian date (all speculation)

The more posts with snapshots the easier likely for someone to duplicate what might have been at or very near their build dates. '93 to "end of production" labels might be more interesting than others.

I started researching the ECM label when I found a error in the NCRS 90-91 Judging Guide. They had the wrong service number (part #) listed for the L98 and B2K. The service/part# for the L98 & B2K is 01227727 and the ZR-1 90-91 has a service/part # of 1220331.

Up until 94 the ECM had a removable plug-in prom. Starting with 94 the ECM was a sealed unit with a programmable prom.

The 4 letter BCC in the upper right corner is specific to model year, engine, transmission and rear end gear. The third line is, as mention, an internal Delco part number which has no reference to any numbers in the GM parts book.

I have attached a PDF that shows the anatomy of the ECM label which was used from 90 to 93 and a few pages from the GM parts book. I also have a number of pics of ECM labels that I've collected so far and will upload them later.

I forgot to mention that the last four digits of the six numbers in the first part of the bar code on line 2 is the prom scan ID.

The LT5 NEVER had a "programmable" PCM similar to those used in the LT1/4 '94+ production.

I posted this "as complete as I've been able to determine" from SPO and other sources back in 4/14 I believe.

I used this GM TIS application to confirm most of this information prior to 2012 - at that time TIS was OPEN to all. It's a subscription service now from ACD.

Yes on the bar code but that SCAN would only confirm "originality" to match production ECM which I believe to be "line 3" and likely the Delco controlled assembly number. A SCAN of the ALDL with a "service PROM" would display the service SCAN code from my chart. In the chart I posted the only discrepancy that I found and I'm quite sure is an "error" in line 5 - 1992. The BPPA I believe was only a PROM update to the original. I had several of those NOS and sold them.

I still have a few NOS GM# 16175910 BATL which is in the charts but using SPO INFO is an EXPORT only PROM.

I learned something new today thanks for the info. I just assumed that all ECM from 94 to 96 were sealed and programmable didn't know that the 94 & 95 ZR-1 were not. I'm only familiar with the 90 & 91 ZR-1 but from your information they used basically the same style ECM up to 95. Thanks again.

With all of the cars that are likely at BG I'd think it an easy way for someone to kill a little time and collect the ECM label images and add to the list. Snapshot and month/year of build from certification label.

I would like to have an ECM label for my 94 if they ever are reproduced in any shape or form....my label is there but very worn with no info to see.
