Short shifter

1 Attachment(s)
Where do I get what I need to convert to a short shifter in my 91 ZR-1? Does it get harder to shift due to the shorter leverage?

Re: Short shifter

The Hurst unit is available here on the registry in the vendor section. It’s a nice piece. Shift effort is very reasonable, you won’t notice much of an increase. The factory shifter has pretty long throws, you have to bend the elbow quite a bit when pulling it back. I find the Hurst to be “just right” not too short, reasonable effort. The ZF Doc shifter is supposed to be very nice too.

I've got the Hurst, short throw, short shaft. Love the feel of it. It's notchy, click, click.

Same here. One of the best mods I've done. It is a very solid, satisfying feeling.

Does it have the lift-up ring for reverse too, or do you risk hitting reverse when shifting into 6th..? I know ZF Doc has that covered on their short throw shifter.

Re: Short shifter

Mine does not have the reverse lock out.
The ZF Doc says we can all miss that shift once, but it will be expensive.
I figure 6th is kinda hard to miss, you never speed shift to 6th.
If there is any doubt in my mind, before I release the clutch, I'll check to make sure.

With 4:10 gears we use 6th pretty often, so I think I must go for ZF Doc's $250 option which uses the original reverse lock out.
