Clutch Replacement in MI?

Clutch is slipping under high-ish loads in my Z (i.e. 4th gear from 40mph full throttle). Seems OK for daily-driving, but not sure for how long.

Any suggestions for places to go for clutch service? I think I want to stay as close to OEM as possible, not sure I need anything super high performance, and I like the dual mass from a noise perspective.

I would imagine this might be easier to farm out than LT5 specific work...thoughts?

definitely need to get it done soon. try this test as well:

at a stop, put it in 4th gear and let the clutch out. if it does not stall, then the clutch is nearly finished.

from what you described, you can nurse it for just a little while before it will be completely gone and not engage at all.

You're not too far from Marc Haibeck in Addison, IL (http://www.zr1specialist.com/). You might see if you can book in with him sometime soon. --Bob

Thanks for the replies - I agree, best to err on the side of caution and get this dealt with relatively quickly, rather than drive it and create more of an issue later on.

Bob - I guess I've always had it in my mind that Marc was further away...thanks for the kick in the right direction!

This seemed a good excuse to get over there anyway - gave him a a call and got on the waitlist for a handful of weeks out. Good to hear he's busy!

You won't regret your decision, and it will be worth the wait. While your car is there, have him go through it completely and recommend things it needs. I did this when I first got my ZR-1s and he replaced all fluids (how often you you change differential fluid?) and fixed everything needed, finding things I would have never thought to ask about, and the cars ran well forever after! --Bob
