No Spark on Cyl 2 &3

Team,

I have completed an under the plenum service.

All new D545 Ac Delco coils, and cyl 2 and 3 do not fire.

I took it back apart, and the coil tests good on the primary, and secondary, and the INJ1 fuse is good.

What else besides the coil can cause this?

Thanks in advance!

Just guessing, but did you put the ignition module plug back in place carefully so that no contacts were bent?

I took it back apart, everything I did seemed correct, I checked all pins, and connectors and nothing is bent, and put dielectric grease on every connector I removed.

Recently I installed a set of Standard Motor Products blue streak coils. Had some ignition difficulties soon after. Upon checking all plug wires with a spark gap tester, coil 2,3 was very weak. Took plenum off again, put in a known good used coil, problem was solved. Do you know what the word NEW means? Never Ever Worked. It?s been preached here before just because you put in new parts doesn?t mean they?re good parts. PS the weak coil tested fine also.

Switched coil position, runs like a rocketship again, no issues??..

Could be poor connection between coil and spade connector on coil base. Could have also been the plug from the DIS not fully seated in either DIS or coil base. Would have been the plug with the dark green wire for coil 2/3.

 Totally agree! Besides after normal life expectancy (the second likely failure scenario), the most often a device fails is immediately upon being put into service (according to references on "MTBF" (Mean Time Between Failure). Can't say how often posts here (and comments from some 'mechanics' goes something like: "...so the (enter part here) was replaced and the problems still is there. So, it can't be (that part)).

Whenever possible, the best (only???) way to determine if a part is failing, is to MEASURE the bitch! Measure its performance before (to confirm an issue) & after (to confirm it is functioning properly). Where ppl get into trouble is making assumptions: assuming a part has failed, and replacing it w/o verifying its performance by direct measurement (if possible). Replacing parts 'until the problem goes away' is not only expensive, but w/o verifying (testing) one leave himself open to multiple failures by introducing a new twist, that - Never Ever Worked item - just adding to the complexity of the initial issue.

Good post. Ya beat me toit!

I measured all coils when I took at back apart, and they all tested good, primary and secondary.

So, the dark green wire that comes out of the DIS plug, is that the long rectangular plug that plugs into the DIS, next to the crank position sensor?

There should be 6-7 wires coming out of the rectangular connector. It has 1/4? bolt for it to attach to the DIS.

Yes. That?s what I thought you meant.
