Re: Speedo not working

You need to first confirm that the speedometer gear is turning and the VSS is sending a signal to the instrument panel.
If that is happening then you likely will be removing your cluster and having the board or circuits repaired.
The manual has a diagnostic procedure for these steps.
Keep us posted.
Good Luck!

Check if you get any reading on HVAC control display. Hold temp up and down arrows until you get 00 on display. Then tap up arrow until 07. Then press the fan auto button in the middle.

Now drive and see if you get a reading.

You absolutely need to do the diagnostics in the manual. I had similar one recently, turned out to be a bad VSS, as they usually are. Can be as simple as a bad connection tho.

Re: Speedo not working

The most common cause for the speedometer to read zero is an open coil in the sensor. Unplug the sensor and measure the resistance at the pins. It should be about 500 ohms. If you measure infinity, or open circuit, the sensor coil is open. If the sensor tests good, perform the same resistance measurement at the ECM connector. Remove connector A and measure between pin 6, yellow wire and pin 11, purple wire. If the resistance is much higher than 500 ohms there is an open circuit between the ECM and the sensor.

The current Standard Motor Products part number for the '91 - '95 sensor is SC12. The '90 sensor has a different connector and is not available. The workaround for a '90 is to use the '91 - '95 sensor and change the connector.

Just replaced the VSS in my 91. As a heads up, Corvette Central was able to provide the AC Delco part, although did list as 94-96 use. Sent them an email advising wider use. Thanks for the great post Marc!
