My New, 23 Year Old ZR-1

This ZR-1 is now for Sale

Two summers ago I put a set of C6 ZR1 wheels and tires on my 2006 ZO6. I really liked the look of these wheels. From the day I bought them I also thought they would look sharp on my C4 ZR-1. I test fitted the C6 ZR-1 wheels on the C4 ZR-1 several times. Doing so confirmed that one day I was going to buy a set for the 1991 ZR-1. The C6 19” wheels didn’t look bad on the front of the C4 but I thought the 20” wheels on the back were too much.
This winter, when I decided I was going to put Michelin runflats on my 1991 ZR-1 I also decided to install the C6 ZR1 wheels. The wheels, tires, and lowering was done by Marc Haibeck who did his typical outstanding work. The look may not be for everyone but I really like it.

The ZO6 that started me thinking I'd like to see C6 ZR1 OE wheels on a C4 ZR-1.

I agree they look awesome! Any spacers to get the correct back spacing? Or are they just stock CR ZR1 rims? This is something I've been thinking about doing to my Z.

I seriously considered those wheels. After all, they are for a ZR1. But opted for the Z06 5 spoke instead but I think your black can work w them better than my black rose. 20" rears SCREAM for bigger brakes BTW. THe Z06 rear calipers I installed do a much better job of filling out the 19" rear wheels. The stock C4 brake looked puny like it came off a Corolla.
I think the silver looks awesome also.

Thanks. I'm very pleased with both the wheels and tires.

I did use a spacer on the rear wheels. The design objective was for the outside edge of the wheels and tires to be located and look the same (as the OE wheels and tires) in terms of their location to outboard side the wheel housing.

The new wheels were 18 X 9.5 inch (fronts) with a +57mm offset and rear wheels were 19 X 12 inch with a +59mm offset. The OE front wheels were 17 X 9.5 inch with a +56mm offset. The OE rear wheels were 17 X 11 with a +36mm offset.

Marc recommended and sourced a 10mm spacer for the rear wheels. The 10mm spacer met the design objective by insuring all of the one inch additional wheel width was on the inside of the wheel housing.

The rear tires were also 1" larger in diameter. The front and rear suspension were lowered 1/2". The speedometer was also corrected +4%.

Nice stance! How did you lower the car?

So these are not OE ZR1 wheels then?

I agree with you on all points. The reason for sending the car to Chicago, however, was it had a pilot bearing that was fused to the transmission input shaft and a clutch disc that imploded. I needed a replacement clutch that would handle the engine mods and I wanted to retain my OE dual mass flywheel. Marc had the package I was looking for.

I had planned to go with the C6 brake package. With the transmission out of the car it seemed to make sense to have Marc send it to Bill Boudreau and have him do his ZF magic.

I spent a big part of my brake budget on on the transmission. I was going to wait on the wheels until I could swing the tires, wheels, and brakes all at the same time. I ended up going with 18" wheels in the front and 19" wheels in the back.

With a little luck I'll buy the high ticket items (Street Shop rear brake adapter kit, rotors, and C6 ZO6 calipers) this summer. The install and remaining parts will need to wait until next year.
