Headlight motors

When I turn off my headlights, there is a clicking sound even after the headlights are fully closed. When only the parking lights are turned on the clicking sound is also heard when they are turned off even though the headlight motors should not have been energized.

I was afraid of that. The headlights still extend and retract but the gears must be damaged. Corvette Central, here I come.

It's a quick and easy job. I just did it on my godson's '90. I got the gears at VettePros here in Charlotte which is quite local for me.

Thanks, guys. This looks like a good candidate for a winter project. I never drive this car at night anyway.

Autozone as well as most auto parts stores have these "help" sections that have assorted parts. Look for part number 74410. They're window regulator plugs for fords. In either case they're cheap, local, and fit perfectly. There are videos on YouTube that will give you a step by step. Nothing to it.

Most likely it's just crumbled bushings. Replacement takes about 30 min. each side. I would start with assumption that it's just bushings rather then spend money on motors needlessly.
Stop by Wazoo get together and I'll replace bushings for you and check out the motors.

Second Chance of Wazoo did mine at one of our maintenance days and I purchased part 74410 from Autozone and it costs something like $6. Done in 30 minutes. The 3 original bushings were dust. No need to replace the motor or gear.
