It’s a real thing. Escape while you can. Or in your case just stay in South Dakota.
Don’t bother with Nevada, as of this year the Democrats (socialists) control this state too with a supermajority in the Legislature and the Governorship. They can and will do anything they want, just like CA. Good luck.

So I guess my 73 convertible with hooker headers and 40 series flowmasters are fine...All though I very much doubt I will be driving it in CA one day...

I watched that video...I'm guessing a lot of C7 Z06's at idle are beyond the noise level ..What a joke....The car manufacturers should get together and repeal this....Most exotic cars out of the showroom stock do not conform with this level...

I'm guessing its the discretion of highway patrol to enforce this.....

Think about it, I can't see highway patrol pulling people over on major expressways and getting an accurate reading considering the road noise in the surrounding area....

They would have to pull you over in a quiet street setting to get maybe an accurate reading...

I fought the "Smog Gestapo" in California for years when I had some dealerships there.
Don't put anything beyond them trying. Also, don't assume that they will treat everyone equally.

To sum it up if you get pulled over in your Z and have a modified exhaust of any type and its is beyond 95db you are getting a $1,000 ticket and have to visit a inspector who will only pass your car if the emissions are 100% back to stock.

They also have the power to confiscate and ban the vehicle from the roads.

Basically screwed.

Eventually CA will outlaw the sale of the combustion chamber engine in favor of electric and other non emission vehicles.

In the meantime a lot of people will become unemployed, fined, and out of a car.

Well the left coast knows what it can do with itself. Blatant money grab.

Ahhh, the Peoples' Republic of California, where plastic straws and modified exhaust systems are deemed far more dangerous than illegal aliens with 20-page rap sheets. May as well be a different planet.

A good read from SEMA on the subject. May not be as bad as first thought.

You AZ guys may want to carefully watch your backs. I used to think like you that NV would never change. Like Nevada, AZ picks up more and more Dems every year. It won’t be long before they control your state too.

Did I read this correctly....it would cost $193 for first conviction and not $1,000?

"According to the Judicial Council of California’s Uniform Bail and Penalty Schedules for 2019, the suggested base fine/fee for a first conviction is $25 with a total fee of $193."

my sheriffs deputy friend told me initially these tickets will be a CHP enforcement, but could also be any dept. depending on who gets the state grant for OT for special enforcement.

Of course he was worried more than anybody with his obnoxious Corsa sport pipe set. The citing officer has the option to send you to a smog referee or just the fine. At first it will be imports, but probably catless straight pipe cars will get nicked too.
