Me too!!...Top end clatter / lifter tick?

Top end clatter / lifter tick? <--- referenced posting is here.

I am having the exact same problem with my 13k miles '95 (stock) as described in the thread above. It sounds exactly the same as the video posted in that thread. (Ticking noise from vicinity of valve train over cylinder #2).

The only difference is... mine is not going away on its own.

I have tried:
** Added MMO to oil ... ran... changed oil.
** Run engine with accessory belt removed. (noise stayed same).
** Took to the "best" LT5 mechanic locally... baffled him. (Not surprisingly...'nuff said.)

I am trying next:
** putting in 0-20W synthetic with a little MMO added... will run for about 15 minutes low RPM... then put in new 5-30W oil (using AMSOIL, presently.)
(The thought behind this being "unsticking"/"pumping up" lifter.)

After that...I don't know what to do next except yank engine and change lifters.

Any advice??

Thanks!
Bill

Try throwing some MMO into the fuel tank. Could it be injector? Is the idle smooth or rough?

Idle is smooth... power is good. I will throw some MMO into gas, anyhow... but 99% sure it's not an injector. Thanks!!

Bill,
When you put MMO in the crankcase , leave it in there for a couple of hundred miles . 300-400 miles should do it. That way your giving the MMO a chance to work.

Just a word about MMO. When using it in the car don't do much red lining.

Bill,
Some history, has the noise just started or has it been doing it for some time?

The noise started suddenly -- no noise one day, then noise the next... has stayed steady since then (it's been a few months ago... didn't do much over the cold winter... so, no change since it started... and I haven't driven it or run it much since.).

Noise started following a long drive. Prior to the long drive, I changed the oil and put in a Haibeck chip. (the Haibeck chip is the only non-stock thing in car.) Since the noise started, I've changed the oil again, and changed the filter (this was following adding some MMO and running that a bit.)

Bought car with 10,xxx miles and noise started at about 13,xxx.

Sounds like you may have lost a lifter, maybe some gunk from the oil pan worked it's way up there. How did the oil look when you bought it? Any sign of sludge or moistue comtamination? Have you decided to pull the motor?

Mine did it starting around 140k never got worse, has 180k on it same runs fine. Many of these motors make that noise.

How many miles have you driven it since the noise started?
Marty
