Acquired an 88 Corvette Challenge Car Today

Should be picking it up this week. It ran the first three races of the season by the series Champion, Stu Hayner. I've had an 89 unconverted Challenge Car and also a 1990 Tommy Morrison World Challenge Car but always wanted one of the factory Challenge race cars.

Nothing like a GM Factory Race car. 1 of 56 made in 88. It currently has only part of the decals applied. I will be ordering the remainder of decals and applying them. Comes with the #s matching engine and the factory sealed engine (installed).

Attached are pics of the car now and the last two pictures show what the car will look like after the rest of the "correct" decals are applied.

Kevin, feel the love, brother. hahahaha

Robert, actually the 88's are B9P.
The 89's are R7F and the 90 is the R9G.

It gets confusing until you read it about ten times. LOL

I love the Challenge Cars. Like the ZR-1's, one day they'll pull some bank.

No, I knew that. I like the R9G cars. I hate the dash that is in the previous year challenge cars. I had the opportunity to buy this car two times. First time the sale price was 30K, Second time 36K. Both times I regret not pulling the trigger.

There is one good thing about you buying this car, at some point you will have to many cars in the stable and you will sell one or two. I dont see you selling the Turquoise big cube, Prototype , Challenge Corvette or the ZR-1 Roadster (Future car) Guess the Dark Purple Car will be the one that has to go.

I remember that R9G car. Didn't Melrose have that one?

I like the R9G cars also. I had a 90 Morrison World Challenge car that he used while waiting on the R9G's in 1990.

You'll really hate me when I tell you I got this car for less than $20k.....;)

Yes Melrose did own the 90, And I would never hate a Corvette guy for getting a good deal on a piece of history.
That was the one thing that shy'ed me away from the 90, it had no race history.
Even though I dont drive my cars very often, I do enjoy driving them and dont think 275 hp would do it for me.

The 88 will probably be the one to go. I just don't feel like I can afford to insure it for what I feel it's worth.

The 95 is the "cherry on top" Z for me. Always wanted a 95. If it wasn't a 95, it wouldn't mean much to me.

Yeah, 275 is pretty anemic after driving the Turq car. Gonna just have to be satisfied owning the Challenge Car. If it's loud enough, maybe the 275 hp won't be as noticeable. hahaha

I agree with you about a stock Z. Although my Ruby is not fast by any means I dont ever see myself selling her. At some point I am sure I am going to do some top end work and have the engine refinished. Oh yeah get rid of the Carolina Clutch in her, It is awful where it engages.
