Re: GM Tech 1 question

I am glad you started this thread. I have wanted to learn more about the Tech1.

The cartridge that I use the most is:

GM/Ford/Chrysler Power Train (GM 81-94) 02001718

I also have:
GM 88-91 Body Systems TK 03040
GM 88-92 Brake ver2.0 TK 03030C
OBD II Interface Cartridge 02002178
Global OBD II w/Toolpack OBD II Interface Cartridge 02002826
Chevrolet EEPROM Service TK 06030 10912

I also have two adapters to connect to the different year connections:

GM 12/14 Pin DLC Adapter 02001384
GM 16/12 Pin Non-OBDII DLC Adapter 02001575

Unfortunately, I have never found a listing of the available cartridges. I have never found a list of the tests or functions that a specific cartridge can do. If anyone knows where to get this kind of information, please post up.

I use my Tech 1A often. I find it a valuable tool for a backyard mechanic.

Jim

Re: GM Tech 1 question

There are ABS adapters and cartridges, Cartridges for transmissions, Body and Chassis etc and electrical probes and a whole lot of other adapters. So no Lee your missing a whole bunch but they show up on Ebay from time to time.

When the GM closed the testing ground out in Mesa Arizona I was able to buy a couple of complete kits (one I sold to Flyin Ryan). I also have a single Mass storage device that works for the entire C4 run. I wish I knew how to copy it. That combines almost ALL of the modules

If there is interest from Jim I can see what other adapters and cartridges I have just so folks know whats out there

Re: GM Tech 1 question

I did not hear anything from Jim however, I decided to let the other forum members see what other possible adapters and cables for Tech 1, Tech 1A are out there and somewhat avialable from time to time.

I am not saying you need all these but here is what is available for your search on Ebay or craigslist. It will also serve as a gauge to how complete your kit is. Usually I find out what part I need when the book tells me to use a certain adapter

Cat 5 silver Cable with RS232 interface (No part number) This allows inerface with printers and computers
Power point extender both fused leads to battery (No part number)
RJ45 Phone Plug 5 Red Cable with voltmeter test lead (No Part number)

Bosch ABS Adapter PN TA00022
GM Pin E Adapter PN TA02149
GM 16/12 Pin non-OBDII DLC Adapter PN 3000053
Tech 1 Test adapter with A&B Probe ports. No part number

Tech 1/1AnVehicle Interface Module (VIM) PN 3000078
VIM 16/24 PIN DLC Adapter cable PN 3000081
RWAL/4WAL Adapter TA 02659A
GM 12//14 PIN ALDL Adapter TA01140

Tech 1 OBD II Vehicle Interface Module (VIM) PN 3000091
Cartridges
GM 88-92 Body Systems PN TK03040
GM 81-92 ECM PN TK02050
Chevrolet 90-92 EEPROM Data Version 2.0 PN TK06032A
GM 88-92 Brake TK03030
Hydromatic transmission 88-91 TK03590

I highly suggest seeking the manuals which exist for each of modules/cartiges listed above (They are in a small loose leaf format in very small binders. They are an invaluable tool that provides step by step instructions on how to use the Tech-1A and its individual cartridges and adapters and cable.

Re: GM Tech 1 question

It's possible you have a Tech1A labeled as a Tech1. if it has the RJ network style probe plug in the side, it's a tech1A.

I mostly use the mass storage cartridge, but the BCM one does some functions. I'm hoping to never need to use it to reprogram a cluster, but I'm gonna hit you up GC if it ever comes to it;).

I have one of the ABS cartridges, but haven't tried much with it.

Re: GM Tech 1 question

I have a Tech1A. You need an ECM cartridge TK02050 GM 81-92; ABS cartridge (Number not handy) and a Body Systems cartridge TK03040 GM 88-92 and a GM 12/14 pin ALDL adaptor. Also you should have the manual TA01130 that comes with the unit. This is very handy! For cables and cartridges that may still be available, also for info, contact Antrone 800-321-4889 ext 9125 at Vetronix.

Awesome tool, MASS STORAGE CARTIDGE P/N 3000003 has everything in it I need Power train, body control, etc......I plugged it into the 92, reads BLMs, RPM, TPS position, knock counts, etc....

I bought it for the 87 Callaway to diagnos an issue, however for the TPI systems you need PIN E adapter.....

Will play with it more tomorrow....

Re: GM Tech 1 question

What is a good price on a used unit ( tech a1) ? I am still tossing it back and forth B/T the tech1 and the Innova 1340.. If the Innova works on OBD 1&2 what is the reason for the Tech 1 being popular ? I'm not trying to be sarcastic but trying to make the right decision ..:)
