Track Day

Going to Firebird tomorrow with #473. Last years best time was 13.44 at 108.17. That was bone stock. I have an open air cleaner lid w/ K&N Filter and a Flowmaster exhaust on it now. Might take the chip out of #458 and see what difference that makes too. I'll post Sunday.

Re: Track Day

OK, times as follows, couldn't get air but once. Showed a corrected elevation of 456 ft!!! The car sure didn't run like that. Also I just can't seem to get any traction no matter what technique I use. Goodyear D3's might be a litle old, they work well on the road but not on the track.

RT .135 60 2.224 1/4 13.343 @ 111.20 Cool Motor
RT .144 60 2.258 1/4 13.653 @ 108.05 Hot Motor
RT .172 60 2.204 1/4 13.397 @ 108.06 Hot Motor
RT .151 60 2.224 1/4 13.312 @ 111.53 Haibeck Chip
RT .118 60 2.214 1/4 13.308 @ 111.67 Haibeck Chip
RT .175 60 2.271 1/4 13.396 @ 108.86 Haibeck Chip-Hot Motor
RT .137 60 2.300 1/4 13.366 @ 109.44 Haibeck Chip ??

Best last year stock was 13.44 @ 108.17, this time 13.308 @ 111.67
So ET dropped .132, MPH went up 3.500

Looks to me like the Haibeck Chip didn't do much except keep the motor cooler and allow the MPH to come back, but, the car runs so much better with the chip. Of interest though is Marc's chip is calibrated for headers, which I don't have on the car yet, so that might have something to do with the times. Car # 458 went 12.95 @ 109.17 with an identical setup although the chip was not calibrated for headers at that time. I think this car has more potential to run better than #458 with tires that hook. MPH indicates this.

If I could get this car to hook the ET's would be much better obviously. I'd say there is at least 2.5-3 tenths at the 60' timers. Old #458 was at 1.95 60' with this same setup. Reaction times also suffer from the traction problem too.

boy if you could buy a used set of mt et street drag radials you could get the 60fts down into the 1.7-8s. i switched to the 275x40x17 from the 315x35 x17 and dropped my 60fts into the .160s. the larger side wall works better with a manual trans. also found putting the shock setting in the middle setting seems to help the car launch . sure nice that drag race season is hear !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just no 60's, huh John :dontknow:. I was thinking to myself ' What would John's 458 60' at? ', then at bottom you said...1.95's, that's killer for what you had done, IMO. that old stinkin' 458 just flat out gets er' done, no 'if' 'ands' or 'buts' about it. I've always thought that. Good work today my friend :hello:.
