Re: 90 stalling issue solved

Varying the vacuum at the FPR varies the fuel pressure. I used this approach on my 84 Xfire so as to be able to use TBI injectors large enough to feed a modified motor at WOT and yet idle properly....

Re: Minimum Air Idle Adjustment

So looks like u should open TB a bit further which then would require fewer IAC steps for idle.
Again, make sure u re-check TPS v whenever u change TB opening.

Re: Challenges setting minimum idle air.

The way to set the IAC is after u have it idling just below ur desired idle, say ALMOST stalling, IOW once u have set ur idle just below where u actually want it, connect everything, restart w diag...

Re: Challenges setting minimum idle air.

Mine is ported and cammed as well. U want to set the idle rpm just below where u want it to idle normally so that the IAC will intervene and keep it from stalling out. My motor idles somewhere around...

Re: Challenges setting minimum idle air.

If u datalog, I use ALDLdroid, connect everything up and then scan w ignition ON but no engine start, see what the IAC STEPS are. Should be 155 if fully extended. Before datalogging, I usually go...

Re: Besides AFR/Lambda, what gauge do you wish you had?

I have been using the Zeitronix ZT-2 for many years. I have a digital gauge on the console that reads Lambda, AFR and allows for two other values to be displayed, ie I have MAP voltage as one of...

Re: LT5 ECM Tuning thread

Grumpy(aka Bruce Plecan) passed away quite a long time ago. We held a tuning symposium in his honor near his home in Ohio. He and RBob were the brains behind a great deal of the tuning knowledge we...

Re: Swapping in a quicker ratio rack: who has done it?

Yeah that was the complaint altho I found that a change of tire made things a bit better. I also upgraded to a set of AFS GS type 17? wheels which I liked quite a bit.

Re: Swapping in a quicker ratio rack: who has done it?

I had an 84 Xfire w Z51. So it had the quicker ratio steering that I thought was replaced in 85 due to the complaints of the car tramming and being too darty.
How it would be in a ZR is something I...

Re: ADS Superchip

ADS is an old calibration. The fact that the fans run on START makes me suspect the checksum is disabled. That?s something that had been done in the early days. I would get a stock prom for the...

Re: Challenges setting minimum idle air.

When u connect ALDL, turn ignition ON, how many steps are showing for the IAC using ur datalogger?
One other thing to try is take IAC OUT and plug IAC port to seal it. Make sure the IAC IS UNPLUGGED...

Re: Challenges setting minimum idle air.

I unplug IAC w Ignition ON but not started. Then go back and turn OFF ignition. I do use my datalogger to check RPM. U should turn throttle set screw until idle is slightly lower than the desired...

Re: Challenges setting minimum idle air.

Did u plug in ALDL, TURN IGNITION ON, then unplug IAC first? The. Unplug ALDL B4 turn off ignition? This closes off IAC port.
Also, throttle blade closes as u back out set screw. At 60 counts, most...

Re: Minimum Air Idle Adjustment

U want enough IAC steps so ECM has room to ?catch? idle drop, but not too many steps to where most of idle air is coming thru IAC opening. I typically shoot for 10-15 steps. One other step I do is to...

Re: Best sounding cams

Yes it is. The video was b4 tuning. Makes u think of what GM could have done continuing to develop that platform. Its the way it should have come from the factory.

Re: Best sounding cams

The sound of a cammed SBC is due to the necessity for high lift/ long duration to get the breathing. 4 valves do that for the LT5, so cam profile can be relatively mild in comparison for similar or...
