Use a mirror to confirm sensor is against the block
Confirm sensor is completely snapped into connector
Confirm fuel pressure is to spec. Likely your primary fuel pump went bad.

And one ft of hose can set you back 30 bucks. It is available on Amazon. Get high pressure clamps too. Not the low pressure screw on the side type.

You are on track. Possibly the arm got tweaked/bent. Why is it easy to get the pumps out and a pain to get back in? Mystery.
