Re: CAN'T PASS CALIF. SMOG, IDEAS/HELP!!!!
Two options for overcoming the problem with plugging in the O2 sensor on the right side:
1. Make or buy an extension, pull the existing sensor wire out at the rt front side of engine, plug the...

Re: CAN'T PASS CALIF. SMOG, IDEAS/HELP!!!!
You should be able to pass the idle and 2500 rpm tests. If your HC,s are high that is an indication of a rich mixture or bad cats. If the cats are bad, both HC and NOX will be high. Post up all...

Re: Catch can did it's job!!
The major contributor to the oil in the pcv system in a healthy lt5 is high rpm runs, it pressurizes the cranckcase, the catchcan seperates the oil being blown into the pcv system.

Re: Oil in injector housing?
For anyone doing a catch can - if the can does not turn the airflow a couple times, plus use a filtering material, it probably won't get all the oil out. On my can the air comes in the side of the...

Re: Passed CA Emissions
Hans,
Great news on passing, I think that as long as your engine is in good running order w/good factory cats, you will pass.

Re: Passed CA Emissions
Also, if the tech was having a hard time maintaining rpm, make sure the heater/ac control is set to off for the test. If it is on, the compressor can cycle on/off and the load change makes it very...

Change the chip back to stock, if that doesnt work, take out a couple more degrees timing advance in the testing rpm range. Like previously posted, dont use octane booster. running octane booster...

Re: Passed CA Emissions
In response to the inquiry about NOX and temperature, its true higher "combustion" temps will increase NOX, but thermowrapping promotes higher exhaust system temps, including raising the temp in the...

Re: Help, looking for emissions experts!!!
Craig,
The terms in Datamaster are STcounts (INT) and LTcounts(BLM). Between those two and your O2 output, O2mV in Datamaster, are what you should be looking at. There are a lot of terms and an...

Re: Turn signal switch R and R
Don,
Here is a pretty good explanation/pictures of what you are trying to do. It goes further into dissassembly of steering column, just stop at the turn signal part and reassemble.

Re: Help, looking for emissions experts!!!
I noticed in your original post you did not mention replacing the O2 sensors. When they get old or contaminated they usually send an incorrect signal that the mixture is lean causing the computer to...

Re: Help, looking for emissions experts!!!
Most tests here in the US use 15 and 25 mph. Talk to Marc, you should be able to record a couple 5 or so minute sessions at 15 and 25 mph using your datalogger, send the files to Marc, and he should...

I recently went through the new CA emissions testing and had a heck of a time getting my 90 to pass w/aftermarket cats. As you noted you passed NOX, which most of the time is the one that causes...

Re: VA emissions tuning
As a note, when I was trying to pass CA emissions most recommendations were to do full throttle time to get the cats hot and burn out deposits. I found that if you don,t have an effective oil catch...

I tried hot wiring the AIR inj pump on my 90. When first started the O2 sensors showed a way lean condition (air being pumped past sensors), NOX went down, then the computer dumped fuel in to correct...

The following got me through CA emissions, don't know if this will apply to the big cams, but this will help emissions on most engines:
Reduce stock spark tables 2 to 6 degrees (mine worked best...
