Well, there IS a 3rd option: DO
Neither!
Stainless headers do not rust, & far as
esthetics go, you'll have to be UNDER the car to appreciate the looks (assuming you coat them), b/c the cam covers are so close to the frame rails seeing the headers (read: admire them) is difficult @ best. (Might only see the first inch...maybe.)
That leaves
heat as the only practical reason to coat or wrap them. Well, I've had mine (bare stainless) since 2009 and I've never felt any discomfort - including when on some long trips in summer weather.
I decided not to cover or coat mine: never regretted it. And, i figured that was a decision i could revisit later if i changed my mind...which I haven't.
You're mileage may vary...
