Default VIN Question

I should know this but I don't.

If my VIN ends in 0301, is 0302 a ZR1 or could
it be a a non Z?

Thanks

If the VIN ends in 0302 and all of the other positions with the exception of the check digit are the same, it would indeed be the ZR-1 that came off the assembly line after yours.

Great! That makes it easier.

It would be cool to find 1991 VIN 0300, 0301 (mine) and 0302
and line them up for a picture.

Thanks

They did not and do not come off the line in numerical order.

The VIN number is assigned when an order is received at the factory.

Quick course on ZR-1 VIN's:

Here is a typical VIN (1990 #0004):

1G1YZ23J6L5800004

The fifth digit (Z) is the Carline Z = ZR-1

The 8th digit is the Engine Code J = LT5

The 9th digit is a Check Sum to verify there are no errors.

The 10th digit (L) indicates the model year L-1990, M-1991, N-1992, P-1993, R-1994, S-1995

The 12th digit (8) is the production Series 8 = ZR-1

Digits 13-17 is the Production Number

?? So ZR1 VIN 0301, for example, could have actually been built
before ZR1 VIN 0300?

Theoreticaly that's correct and production option consrtraints and vendor supply issues in general production runs influence the actual builds. Since these are all "like" builds there's a less likely chance I would think of the occurance but yes it's possible.

I've never seen an unusual difference in build dates that stood out when I was paying fairly close attention to a few builds. I did a sequence I believe of most years and the builds generally happened in smaller than would have been expected lots.

So generally speaking, they were built in order, but it was
possible for them to be completed a bit out of order for various reasons.

Is that a fair statement?

Thanks

My '90 last 4 = 2794. Still has a TX DOT sticker in the windshield - doesn't happen to mean anything to anybody?

I know it was folded up in the back @ one time, so you won't hurt my feelings if you do happen to know the car... (clean title tho (NC ) ) ............
