What's with the ground straps on the spark plug wires? I haven't seen that done in years.

Not really. The Lotus GT-1 race car w/ this engine made about 620 @ 7000 (unrestricted) according to a dyno graph I have. That was a 366 inch engine. It did run with inlet restrictors in race conditions, though. With 800 hp, that would have raced a lot longer than 1 season in GT-1.

i have seen that Gt-1 engine. Jeal came by it and it was in his wshop.

Built by Lotus engineering for Lotus GT1 Racing (Dutchman Twan Hazelmans owned the team) to go into the Elise GT1.There was a regulation change during 1996 which made the cars original 3.5 litre twin turbo V8 uncompetitive so it was decided that a 6 litre NA. engine was the way to go. The engine is based on the 93 to 95 four bolt LT5 but only uses the major castings, all internal components have been changed.

Cylinder heads by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering with D port configuration, no port throttles. Stainless values by Tech Del, titanium value spring seats and retainers and billet steel camshafts. Hydraulic lifters from Audi A8 (different bleed rate from stock to delay the onset of value flow). Cosworth forged pistons with 3mm race piston rings, cast iron liners, 5998cc capacity. Stock throw crankshaft, flat plain configuration. Pace dry sump pump, special oil pan and windage tray, special water pump, higher flow rate. Single mass alloy flywheel, twin plate race clutch.

The original power curve data shows 615 bhp with two 36mm restrictors (the way it needed to run in the car) in the airbox intake and 645 bhp unrestricted. Max power is around the 7000 rpm mark, max torque of 580 ft/lbs is around 6200 rpm (over 450 ft/lbs at 1200 rpm), red line at 7800 rpm. The team that originally ran Bosh EMS but we will run Motec.
This configuration is how the cars ran in the 97/98 FIA Sports Car Series and the Le Mans 24 Hour races of those years. This engine has around 20 miles of use since a complete re-build and was a spare engine for the team.

I'd more interested in the dry sump setup.
