Here's the color chart prepared using the RPO lookup tool that LGAFF found. I included a jpg and a zip of the Excel spreadsheet.

I'm new at uploading files, so bear with me.

Mystery Solved I think!!!

See >> http://www.corvette-web-central.com/C4production.html

MY 90-92 were 35 for Yellow

MY 93-95 were 53U for Comp. Yellow

Who ever made that master chart did not have this detail noted.

The next time I add 5 more to the Chart we will fix the 53U to a 35U since that is correct for MY92.

As far as the nice new charts they do not list the actual paint codes.

So what I think I will do is just remove the old charts since they are JPEG's and not so easy to fix and are redundant anyway.

What do you guys think?

As I went through the data for all of the ZR-1's, I found that GM used Paint Codes (xxU) to refer to different colors in different years and possibly different RPO's to specify the same color in different years.

The yellow cars are an example of this. In 1990 and 1993-1995 RPO 53U is Competion Yellow. In 1991-1992, 35U is competition Yellow.

RPO 68U in GM Description is Brilliant Red Met. But to the ZR-1, 68U is Dark Red in 1990 and Ruby Red in 1993. In 1991-1995, Dark Red is 75U.

There are other examples of this. Some of the problems come from the Marketing folks calling the colors by different names than the exterior paint RPO code descriptions.

The only color that actually changed was the Polo Green which was a 1990-1991 color (RPO 91U) and Polo Green II (RPO 45U) used in 1992-1995. Apparently there were QA problems with the early green color paint.

OK well that works for me Jim.

Thanks for the explanation on what you found out about it all.

On our master chart we dropped the U from the code and just went with the # and took the time to label the color with each row so it was easy to understand. It made the chart wider but makes it easier to understand and no use of a color chart needed now!

A lot like you did by just listing the color and not the code.

Hi guys. I know of a 92 in my area but wasn't 100% sure of the VIN, just knew it was a later one. I confirmed it yesterday. 492, Green/Tan.

That's interesting. The compnine website look-up tool show 492 being Yellow / Black. Maybe that tool has bug?

I seen the car about 3 years ago now & I did look at the VIN at the time but never stored it in the ol' memory bank, LOL. I thought I was remembering it was 498...I do remember it was very late for sure though. Talked to the guy yesterday & asked him specifically, for you guys, the VIN info. Said 492 out of 502, he did know the '502' part, he said 105K, so not sure if he meant 105 thousand miles or 105 thousand Kilometers? No matter...
