After our visit to the Hill Aerospace Museum, we drove east over the mountains to Huntsville, UT to have lunch at the Shooting Star Saloon:

The Shooting Star Saloon was founded in 1897 and is the oldest licensed saloon west of the Mississippi River. They are known for their burgers. We ordered the Star Burger: two cheese burger patties, lettuce, and tomato with a mild sausage served on a bun with chips. The burger was very good!

In the picture, there is a cozy on Lyndi's beer glass from Terry's Tag and Title Company, a woman-owned business in our County that is owned by a friend of Lyndi's. We estimate that the cozy has travelled over 120,000 miles with us on ZR-1 Road Trips.

We have visited the Salt Flats on previous Road Trips but this time, we don't have it on the itinerary. I believe that the sand holds a lot of surface water this time of year.

Day 11: For our last day in Park City we decided to ride the Heber Valley Excursion Railroad. We boarded the train in Heber City, UT. The railroad is recovering from a COVID shutdown. Our trip was the first trip of the season. We booked our reservation in advance and choose a passenger car with tables and large windows for watching the country side:

The 2-hour trip went from Heber City to Deer Creek Reservoir and returned. Later in the season the trip will go past the reservoir and last 3 hours.

We were the only passengers to select the "table Car", we had plenty of room to spread out:

The trip is out and back. We enjoyed the trip and we are sure that the ridership will build.

We left Heber City and drove to Midway, UT to find the Crater hot springs at the Homestead Resort.

The "Spring" is a cone that was formed by mineral rich heated water rising to the surface and depositing the minerals. A clever person cut a hole in the side of the cone and configured it to allow swimming and scuba diving:

After visiting the crater, we drove back to Park City by crossing the mountain on State Park roads:

Day 12: Our week at the Westgate Park City Resort and Spa was an excellent experience. The facilities are in very good condition, the staff are very helpful, professional and friendly. We enjoyed the visits we made to the their Beer and Burger Bar called Drafts. The Resort is primarily a timeshare operation but they also operate as resort hotel with daily and weekly rates.

On Saturday, we departed Park City and drove east to Flaming Gorge, UT. We took I-80 East back into southern Wyoming then turned south on UT-414. The roads were in good condition and the traffic was light. The scenery was beautiful.

For most of the terrain we drove through there is a easy to see red rock layer the has been shaped and exposed by the geological forces of sedimentation, uplift and erosion. This formation on I-80 east of Park City, shows the red layer:

The open Road:

We turned off I-80 near Lyman, UT and headed south on UT-414. We sighted this building with confusing signs. Is it John's or Ted's? We didn't stop to find out and maybe it doesn't matter:

The clouds were building ahead of us and we expect the rain to start soon:

A confused Sky:

This part of southern Wyoming has a lot of agricultural use, mostly in cattle and sheep production. Many farms use sprayed irrigation to improve grazing land:

We arrived at the western side of Flaming Gorge Reservoir and stopped for a photo shoot. The same red layer in the rocks is visible in the walls of this canyon:

As expected, we drove into the rain, and the temperature dropped into the 50's. We drove on the our lodging at the Red Canyon Lodge. In the parking lot we found two Corvettes and had a nice talk with the couples who were out for a weekend drive. The black Vette is a 2006 Z06 and the beautiful custom red Vette is a 1967. The owner of the '67 misread the weather when he started out and left the tops at home. His wife was not pleased about the situation:
