Default Vets with Vettes

I suspect that we have a lot of veterans who own/drive a Vette, especially the ZR-1. Post up if you're a Veteran with a Vette - let us know who you are.

I recently changed my avatar to reflect my service with The United States Army Field Band of Washington, D.C., also known as The Musical Ambassadors of the Army. TUSAFB tours more than any other band - most concert tours are in the USA but the band has performed in Europe, Asia, Central & South America. The band was formed from combat musicians at the close of WWII and was charged with promoting patriotism, freedom, and the American spirit throughout the country and world. Most military bands have a home post or base and, as such, wear the insignia (badge) of that base - TUSAFB is unique in that it is attached directly to the Pentagon and is the only band with its own insignia, the musical Pentagon (my avatar).

Concert tours sometimes lasted as long as 90 days, with performances as often as twice daily and frequently changing cities (even countries) each day. TUSAFB has the main Concert Band, Soldiers Chorus, Jazz Ambassadors, and Six-String Soldiers. Since 1947 approx. 1600 musicians have served in TUSAFB and almost half are now deceased. I was fortunate to have served with & have as friends many WWII veterans, including several in the Battle of the Bulge as well as one Pearl survivor.

For the past several years TUSAFB recognizes former members of the band at their final summer concert at Ft. Meade, MD - this concert is free to the public, as all of the band's concerts are. I've returned several times for the "reunion" concert, each time performing once again with the Band that had such a profound influence on not only my life, but my entire family.

btw, my nickname & handle was not from my military service, but given to me by several ZR-1 owners on this forum.

Navy Commander, active duty for 31 years in July (12 years enlisted, prior Chief). Too many duty stations to list but currently an XO for a shore command in the Norfolk VA area. Rode boats (qualified BILLFISH) and flew on ES-3A and EP-3E aircraft in my younger days, but all that is left for me now is staff duty, more staff duty and command jobs.

Air National Guard Weapons Systems Officer (nav) (Idaho F-4Gs, C-130s) and Georgia B-1Bs. Also worked at Savannah Combat Readiness Training center and retired as an 0-5. Loved every day of 23 years and 11 months. Miss the power of twin J-79s and quad F101 engines but by far miss the camaraderie of my fellow service men/women most of all!!

USAF, Ret. Enlisted in ‘87, commissioned ‘94, retired ‘13 - Lt Col. So very many great jobs, times and people. Last duty was in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Pentagon - best assignment of them all. Saw the world and met so many ZR-1ers along the way. What we did made a difference. Too many diverse positions to describe. Was a great adventure!
