Oh, and they usually eventually contract it out to the same for-profit company once they have mucked it all up.

Sounds like a winner to me!

Administrative "costs" for "for profit" health insurance companies is ~15%. For Medicare its 3%. More of your money goes to paying healthcare bills and not shareholders, bondholders, the CEO and all the marketing expenses.
Healthcare is a right. Its a necessity for living in a society, like air, water, and these days of course electricity and the internet. I am not interested in having the government make smartphones, corn flakes, or automobiles.
There's many places where for profit is completely appropriate. And I support that. However, making money off of whether someone lives or dies isn't one of them.

Not a big believer in insurance companies either. It's just group paying.
They cannot hand out more than they take in. Plus you have to support all the employees, and all those great big buildings.
How about we teach people to be responsible with their money and they simply pay for what they use.
Haven't I been paying into the medicare system most of my life, why shouldn't I take advantage of it.
Just like social security.
If anybody had bothered to ask me, I would have said no thank you.
That's why I traditionally vote republican.
So do I think the feds or ins. co's can manage my money better than me? I don't think so.
Steve,

If you get cancer (and I pray u don't) you simply could not sustain the costs on your own. If you could you wouldn't be driving a 90 ZR-1. So I don't yet understand how you think you can go it alone.

Naaaaaaah. We're a nation of 323 million. We will survive even this flaming butthole.
But you guys will have to live with that vote for the rest of your lives.

I'm fine with Trump and I'd gladly choose him again over Hillary or Obama. I'm hopeful that he will get at least one more Supreme Court pick (his first one was outstanding), reduces/simplifies the tax code and curtails illegal immigration- things I believe he can achieve.

And if I do get cancer, is it your OBLIGATION to help me pay for it?
I'm the first one to help a neighbor out that is down on his luck.

Your neighbors can't help you if you get cancer.
But 325 million of your neighbors can chip in for the unlucky ones.
That's the concept of single payer.

Maybe we should help our neighbor when he wants a new car or to go on vacation, a new home, help him buy a business...why stop with insurance, it never ends, where do we draw the line on HELP...

What is so difficult w understanding the concept of spreading the risk? The ENTIRE Insurance Industry is based on that. I pay taxes for police, fire, infrastructure etc. all of which could not be funded individually, and therefore society could not exist. The larger the pool, the more inexpensive the individual coverage. Do u think that the premiums you pay for your vehicle are sufficient to cover an even minor mishap and still have the insurance company make a profit?
Believe what u will, but you don't live on another planet, you are affected by what happens to others like it or not, problems and risks are "socialized" which is what happens in a community and society. Its not an obligation. Its just how the universe works.

Yeah it does end. You draw the line at strictly providing a safety net of fundamental services needed for life.

The government is providing more than that now with all the give-a-way programs...when you subsidize an activity, you get more of it.
