I own a 2004 Tahoe Z71 with about 180K on it. A few weekends ago I trashed the front diff while out 4 wheeling. Thats on me I know that. I took it to the shop I used to replace the T-case about 2 years ago. But actually they did not do the work they gave it to the dealer to fix, but I did have a warranty so when the diff made noise I thought it may have been the T-case so I took it back to that shop to get it looked at it. They said it was the diff. OK so they gave me a price to put a good but used diff. Too bad for me they put a diff with 3:45s in a car with 3:73 in the back. That probably trashed the case. So they took it back to the dealer and he changed the T-case, under warranty and the original shop rebuilt the diff. I had doubts that they could handle it, It took then several tries to get it right. When I got it back it was still noisy in 4WD. Long story short I called the Dealership and they told me that they told the tech from the local shop that the noise was coming from the diff. not he T-case, Further the local shop had asked the dealer not to talk to me and they would take care of it. The original shop held the line the all was within spec. I managed to get my money back today and will take to a driveline specialist to be sorted out, but what a hassle this has been.
