Default 28 years ago today .....

the Record Run was getting underway in Fort Stockton, TX and 24 hours later, on March 2, 1990, the Corvette ZR-1 had set several new world records. The event was especially significant in that the record run was achieved using production cars, a feat that has not been repeated. Also significant was the record run occurring on the 154th anniversary of Texas' declaration of independence and on a personal note it was the 50th anniversary of my parents' marriage not too far from Fort Stockton.

Click the photo below to read Hib Halverson's complete story of the Record Run.

Ha Ha George--Funny you should post this pic today. I just posted the same picture yesterday in a thread on the Stingray Forum that had started with a lame msn.com article praising the "record" set by a C5 in 1998. Only when you read the article it only references that the then-new C5 was Motor Trend's Car of the Year. I felt obligated to post the ZR-1s records and link to Hib's great article on it on the ZR-1 registry website to help keep things in perspective.--Bob

What "record" did the C5 set for its 2nd year of production(1998)?

I stopped in there on my way to a PCS to Vegas in summer of '14. They were very nice and walked me around the base facility but were actively testing on the track.

Such a great story and significant piece of racing history.

Second time I've read it. Always amazed.

Gunny - Thanks for posting.

And 3.2.1836 Texas declared independence from Mexico ... interesting date correlation.
Happy Independence Day y'all.

Hey Bob, I'm not sure if this is the video you are referring to, but here is a video from the Vette Museum.

That's a great video. I've seen a few others, but that one's the best yet. Thanks for posting.
