Default Gas door emblem removal.....

Detailing the Z, I figured I would remove the emblem from the gas door. Not a good thought, as the outer rings broke and so did a stud. Also not remembering that there is adhesive on the emblem which holds it in place.
What is the best way to remove emblem safety without doing further damage?
I have a replacement ready to go!!! Thanks for any info.......

Ok, figured it out.......needed string, a long punch & my 5 lb. mini sledge did the trick....now for adhesive removal....
Would post pics, but I get an upload error everytime I try. First time this has happen......

Heat gun or hair dryer & fishing line. take your time and don't glue them back on.

Having fun yet?

I don't know (or want to know) what the hammer and punch is for!! And, as for the fishing line, I used 20# mono-filament between right and left index fingers, sawed back and forth in presence of the 3M solvent.

Oh, well.... Looks like your having fun!!

Now you need some goo gone. Works pretty well on that left over adhesive or 3M Adhesive remover.

Well, I'll tell you anyway.....the hammer and punch was used to separate the emblem from the door. The string only work so far....then I had to resort to a more persuasive manner for removal. Holding the fuel door with my left hand, and against the emblem in the upright position, I used the punch and the mini sledge to whack the studs and what was left of the one stud, to have the emblem come apart from the door. This is not for the faint of heart......
That mini sledge is one of the best tools I have ever purchased. It has helped me numerous times for years, believe me when I tell you.

I think I have some of both, but since retirement a few weeks ago, its tough to schedule finishing the job........lol
I am concerned about getting anything on the paint, but I imagine I will be ok, hope to get done by the weekend, that's if my "busy" retirement schedule allows........lol
