Default ZR-1 Corvette Road Trip to the Southwest and San Diego

Lyndi and I are on the road again. We left Westminster, Maryland this morning and headed West. We will be crossing the Great Plains and then sightsee in Colorado, Utah, California, San Diego, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and then home.

The trip will take 32 days and about 7,800 miles.

Here we are in front of McDaniel College, across the street from our home:

The Purple Z is ready for the trip. I finally fixed the PKE problem and the car is running fine.

More to follow...

After crossing the Alleghany Mountains at Sidling Cut, we stopped for a look at the new Casino and Golf Resort at Rocky Gap. The facilities are new and impressive. If you like fine dining, golf and gambling I recommend it:

We crossed West Virginia and into Ohio. We stopped in Columbus, OH to visit the German Village. It is a very nice restored area of a modern city. The German Village is the largest privately owned, restored urban area in the country. There are many nicely restored streets and homes, We enjoyed seeing the Breweries and Draught houses:

We toasted the start of our trip with some German Beer is a nice neighborhood bar:

We stopped at Schmidt's, an Ohio landmark for more than 125 years:

Our first night's stop is in Richmond, Indiana:

Jim and Lyndi!
Thank you so much for continuing your tradition of taking us with you on your trip! You'll be driving right through our home in Indy, I wish I had known earlier and I could have planned to drive mine to Richmond to meet you for breakfast, but I booked a job for first thing in the morning tomorrow. Next time.

Travel safe and as always I'll be checking this post daily! Thanks again and have fun!

Thanks for sharing.

I'm looking forward to seeing your Utah-California-Arizona pics -- should be nice!

No, sadly, in order to get the reservations I wanted at the North Rim Lodge at the Grand Canyon, we had to plan this trip starting early in May. I made the reservations a year ago.

So, I will miss the Mountain Run and the Gathering this year.

Ironically, a week ago, I was informed that my reservation at the North Rim Lodge had been cancelled because a rockslide had disrupted the potable water supply to the Lodge and the repairs would occur when I was supposed to be there.

But it was too late to reschedule the whole trip.

What a wonderful trip you have planned. Enjoy it. If you get in trouble when in LA area, you have a pit stop available.
