Default My 1990 ZR-1 #2299

Since my long 2+ year project ZR-1 is finally done (still some stuff to do cosmetic-wise but it's drivable and done for now), I thought I'd post some pics of it here. They were taken while on the 3-day Corvette trip I posted about in the General section.

For anyone that may not realize what a massive project this has been and how much work I've put into this car, click on the link below to look through my restoration thread.

Really amazing work, thanks for bringing us along on this restoration. If you dont mind, with the cost of the car what was the cost of the build?

I was keeping track of the costs, but haven't added in the recent purchases I made. I was at $9,539 total back in March, but have spent probably somewhere around $1,000 to $2,000 since then.

So I would estimate the total cost including the car itself to around $11,000 plus or minus a couple hundred bucks. I'll have to dig out my receipts and add them to the total to find out what it is exactly.

I think I did alright cost-wise. I don't think you could find a higher mileage driver ZR-1 that is quite as clean as mine is, or has been gone through to the extent that mine has for what this one cost me. Granted, that is not including the many hours labor I put into it, but for me, I enjoyed rebuilding this car (for the most part ). Even with 140K on the clock, my LT5 easily has another 100K left in it, if not more.

Congrats on getting it all back together and on the road again.

Looks great and really nice photos you took on the trip.

You have come a long way from that day you bought the 92 ZR-1 model.

Who would have imagined!

Remembering this quote of yours >>

"Yeah, I was excited, but not so much anymore. I feel like backing out and forgetting the whole thing. I'm worried about the possible damage. I don't have another $6000 to spend on another engine, or heads (heard those cost like 5k each? Yikes... what have I gotten myself into...) Could the head possibly be repaired if the damage is not too extensive? Maybe just replace the valves? "

And ZR-1 Brother "JEFF" told you

"you know what.. don't sweat it yet.. Check it out, be sure it is what you expected and go from there.. if you buy it and bring it home, then the fun begins.. Take your time, and go through everything.. "

Ben,

The car looks great and all that work you did paid off. I really enjoyed the restoration thread and I really like the engine choice of color. Very cool Glad to see you are out enjoying the Z now

I couldn't agree with you more Lee. A white 90 would set off these ZR-1 Gen 1 Dymags I have perfectly!
