Default Hesitant on acceleration and nothing when you mash the throttle

Car will run at relatively low speeds if you feather the gas.....Once you mash the throttle it falls on its face...Idle is fine..No check engine light ....

91 Z w 510 package w cams ..Sec deleted..Pumps were swapped 5,000 miles ago...Fuel filter about 15,000 miles ago..Car has 57,000 miles..

Bad gas ? Don't think that's it....Cars driven regularly ....Put some fresh gas yesterday...Same thing....No backfire just hesitant and nothing when you lean into the throttle...

Anyone ?

any info prior to the problem? when did it run well last?
was it an all of a sudden thing or a gradual decline in power loss?
any changes done or maintenance done recently?

Sounds like a secondary fuel pump from the limited info at this time, need to check fuel pressure and report back

I have a feeling this is gonna be a good one......

Check the fuel line connections to the fuel pumps. I had similar conditions but worse and it would stall. A loose fuel line was the problem. Put a stainless steel clamp on and problem solved. Think if you pull the fuel pumps you will see possible crack in the Y or a loose hose connection. Good luck and keep us posted.

Ok...Had car out about a week ago before yesterday...No prior problems at all....A little over a year ago I had a hose disconnect from one of the pumps......Car would not even start...Notice though yesterday that car started a little funny....Had to crank it a few times even when it was warmed up....I guess I can take out pumps and have a look.....

Why not check your fuel pressure with a gauge???

Absolutely!
You need to confirm adequate pressure.
It sure sounds like no fuel upon secondary demand.
Tape the gauge to the windshield and see what is going on.

Also, with recent cold snap any water in fuel tank, lines or filter becomes more of a problem.

The cold also lengthens the time until operating temperature is reached. While your secondarys are mechanically full time, if your ECM sees temp below operating temp I wonder what it has been told to do if re-tuned, or is it running original tune. Normally, it would not want to pulse those secondary injectors.
Does the problem occur below and above 180 degrees?

Marty

Hey Marty its John....I was by your dealership a few weeks ago....It does it below and above 180 degrees.....I doubt its gas line water, all though its been extremely cold..

Yes car has been retuned by Dempsey when I got the work done ....Storm is expected to hit tonight so not sure when I can bring it somewhere to check fuel pressure....Maybe my mechanic friend of mine has one that I can use...

I'm in on that 04...Let me know what's up...

Are you running original air intake? Could it be collapsing? I still vote on fuel pressure. You can rent them for free at most parts stores. (you would need an extension to tape it to windshield)

A buddy of mine has one....Has 2 foot extension.....I can check it at idle....

As far as driving it taped to windshield we are expecting 15 inches of snow in NY.... ( Great ).

Air intake is original but in excellent condition...
