Arrow How to know if its time to change the clutch or not? ---

My clutch doesn't grab until the pedal is almost all the way out.

Something is telling me that it may be time to replace some clutch related parts.

I get the noisy clunking from the transmission when the car is warm ... its fine cold , but after driving it is embarrassingly loud. If I move the shift knob side to side in neutral, sometimes it quiets it down shortly.

Isnt there a test to go on the highway at low rpm in 4th gear then punch it ... if the clutch plate is worn the rpm's will shoot up faster than the acceleration?

I will go to a single mass flywheel ( if there isn't already one in here ) and the BMW transmission fluid.

I will also need a clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing right?

Whats the forums favorite brand of parts to go with? I think I saw a few people using the Fidanza flywheel.

What are the part numbers?

I've never replaced a clutch in any vehicle I have owned before.

THANKS for the help! ---

Before tearing into the clutch, suggest you check that the reservoir is up, and that the slave is not leaking. I had a leaking slave and it had a noticeable effect on the behavior of the clutch

Good call, I will check that first.

I haven't driven many miles since I last checked, but it has been awhile ---

Post up what you find there; I still have almost all parts (including the fork) from my auto conversion. New Parkerization (gun parts Phosphate coating) on some of the parts so far.

I can get them out for postage plus enough for a Happy Meal...............
