Default Anyone have any ideas about early 90' ZR-1???

OK so I found AND bought an early model 90 ZR1 #00077

Called Jim, but found a few things:

#277 stamped on the plenum
[IMG][/IMG]

Also: Carfax says first registration was with 48,122 miles from an auction.

First Title says it was issued to Chevrolet Pontiac Canada in Sterling Heights Michigan. With 14188 miles on it.

No RPO for Canada, but somethings odd.

Thoughts??

I would really like to get some knowledge on this car becuase there is a ton of rumors in it....

An NMVTIS inquiry is only $4.50 and is frequently more useful than CARFAX BUT there's no telling when the vehicle may have first generated information that the NMVTIS was made aware of. I'd say it's the least expensive "documented" start.

Perhaps it might help if you shared some of the "thought to be" rumors!

#653 doesn't share the plenum information and if you notice the attaching hardware isn't OEM either. Do I see plenum spacers? If there are plenum spacers the other part of the popular package was to have added the "ram air" package that was marketed by a same company that did plenum spacers. Not all plenum spacers came from them though. Is there a large bored hole in the bumper cover and impact bar at the front tag location?

#0077 should also be a car built with steel half-shafts. Are they still there?

Schrade....it's me Dempsey!...

Yes, it does have the steel half shafts!!!!...

Rumors:

Hand built.. A few people have told me that actually
4/10 gears: don't know have not driven it yet
Steel half shafts came stock with it:...apparently true?
Not sold to the public..: seems possible because the first title is to GM and has 14,000 miles and the first sale was at auction with 48000 miles
Possible exec car: possible
The previous owner also said this car may have been one of the very first chassis they built into a ZR1.. He said the fuel injectors were dated 1988 and there are 1988 and 1989 stickers all over the car.

Gotcha'; didn't recognize the snappic ...

Doug called; he's hesitating on $600 for the ZF - PM me, and he said to give him a call there.

I don't mind forward the tranny, you can check it out first............................

Hi there! Great looking car! I'm just reviving your post as I just purchased car No. #0077. It is a 93 40th Anniversary.
I see that your car has the same number? Are you certain of it?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Cheers,
Quentin

Hi, Quentin. Serial numbers basically (it?s an oversimplification but easiest to explain) start with 001 every model year. So he has 1990-0077 and you have 1993-0077.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain. Indeed, I realized that in the meantime

Yes this is an early 90 but not the first of the ZR-1 builds. First wide bodies are built in July of 1987 as 88 (model year vehicles) that have VIN numbers on the frame and EX numbers at the base of the windshield. In 1989 GM builds 84 (is the number I keep hearing) Pilot ZR-1s with #00069 the first Saleable car (went to Geneva Switzerland show) and the plan was to start selling to the American public at VIN 00085. Due to oiling issues and having to support parts for 10 years, GM decides not to release a flat dash (89) ZR-1 to the public and pushes to 90. Still some of the very early VINs are retained by GM for testing and the like. Sounds like yours is one of them.

As for steel half shalfs, the first 500 or so have them just like my 90 VIN 00277. Check the stamps on the rail of the block just above oil pan and I bet the engine has 277 as part of it. Your car might also have a replacement engine from GM engineering from testing explaining the 277, 1988 injectors and other early parts. Also your build would have been in 1989 around July based on your VIN. Would love to discuss this one further with you as I have 1988 KoH VIN 000038 EX5006. Hope this helps a little.
