Default 1971 Maserati "INDY"

My Uncle is restoring a 1971 Maserati Indy that has a ZF 5 speed, 4.2 liter V8 DOHC 2+2 coupe 1,104 built over 7 years, with 440 of them being built with the 4.2 liter. There was a later 4.7 and 4.9 liter versions available
It has 4 Weber carbs with a funky linkage setup.

The 2 seater coupe version is called the Maserati Ghibli.

He had a custom rad built by a local custom rad builder for it that looks very nice. If you bring him the old rad, he will create a new one that matches it identically. There is a member from Toronto that was looking to do some radiator work that may wish to contact this builder.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these Maseratis or has any general comments about them? Driving tales, "I heard this about them" are more than welcome. I personally had never heard of the "INDY" until I saw my Uncles sitting next to his Testarossa.

Thanks guys.

Here is a pic of one of these Indy's. This is the same colour as my Uncles, its a Dark Green.

Lovely piece of automotive history. I liked the Bora and Merak.

Just before the snow he drove it over, that DOHC V8 sounded great.
I'll try and get some pictures over Christmas as we are gathering there.
This was his first car that he did, a 1969 Dodge Charger "500" which was 1 of 27 with the 426 Hemi-dual 4bbl carbs, 4 speed manual trans, with a 4,10 geared Suregrip in the Dana 60 rear axle. The rest of the Hemis (40 auto Hemis produced) were Torqueflight automatics, then the remained of the 500's had the standard 440 Magnum engine. NASCAR required 500 engines to qualify for competition.

The 1969 Charger 500 was the first "Aero" car that Chrysler build for NASCAR racing swapped out the normal Charger recessed front end and used a flush mounted 76 Coronet flush mounted grill, also the rear deck was made into a fastback and also stainless steel covers were added on the A-pillars to aid aerodynamics.
The 1969 Dodge Daytona was pretty much a Charger 500 but with an extended nose, high rear spoiler and the same A pillar covers.

He sold the 500 and got a low mileage 1991 Ferrari Testarossa from the original owner that paid sticker plus. He still owns this car, and then within the last couple years he bought the Maseratti which occupies the other bay of his garage.

I would take the Daytona over the Ferrari too.

Interesting to see similarity of the C4.
