Default No Start

Here we go again. No Start.

By passed cutch, no start

Hooked voltmeter 12.6v hit start switch voltage drops to 11.8v.

No sound of the solenoid.

Before I pull the plennum again am I right to suspect the solenoid (starter)?

It's a '92 with 37k

Thanks
Jim

If this just happened....try several times and make sure Battery is FULLY charged before you try again. Usually the problem becomes intermittent as the Battery or Solenoid worsens in condition.

Solenoid could be stuck or not moving if no click (or moving very slowly).
Remove Starter and recondition Solenoid and then BENCH TEST STARTER.
Actually Bench Test Starter before you recondition to diagnose the issue.

Even with a voltage drop to 11.8 I think you'd still hear
something from the starter.
Maybe dumb, but I'd still try depressing the clutch and
give it a try.
I've also heard of getting a wooden stick and slipping
it behind and underneath the plenum until you feel the
starter and give it a good whack.
Will the car push start?

Good luck!

Ted

A good battery should have 14v ; 11.8v will not start Car!

14v with engine running, yes. 12.7v is fully charged with engine off. If it drops to 11.8v when attempting to start, something (the starter) is either drawing lots of current, or battery is faulty.

Splice into the 12ga Purple wire near the brake booster , touch it to the positive on the battery . Sometimes it will spin over , if it doesnt then you have starter issues !

Yes suspect the starter. The solenoid is drawing current but the starter isn't turning.

Hi 11.8v while trying to crank the engine is ok the voltage will probably drop even more once the starter motor is turning the engine over as someone else suggested I would get the solenoid wire and power it up. the engine should turn over if not the starter motor will need repairing also check your earth and all connections
You can use your volt meter and look for voltages drop.
When you get it all back together I would suggest you fit a slave solenoid to drive the starter motor solenoid this gives the solenoid a hard hit of power if you have any questions hopefully I can help one other thing to try is to rock engine back and forward if the pinion stuck in gear this will free it up

Your voltage is pretty low, probably not enough to start the car. But let us know how it turns out.
