Any advice regarding OE Wheels
I am looking for some A mold style wheels for my 1990. I have tried to find reasonably priced originals but that is hard to do. I have looked at OE Wheels, and their prices are great, but does anyone have direct experience with their wheels? Any fit, safety or finish concerns? I am not sure what finish I would go with but would avoiding chrome be a good idea for long term reliability of the finish?
The original tires with 15,000 miles came with the car when I bought it so my plan is to remount those on the stock wheels and buy a new set of tires to mount on the A molds for driving. While I am at it, any tire recommendations. I am considering Nittos. Thanks. |

I'm running nittos now and while they don't seem to stick as well as my old gsd3's they aren't bad

Have you considered stepping up to 18" wheels? If the Shelby wheels can be found for a decent price they look awesome on a Z

Re: Any advice regarding OE Wheels
Just my 2 cents.....when I bought my Z it had the original Gatorbacks on the front. I had to drive 2 hours home so knew I wasn't going to press my luck on 25 year old front tires. The previous owner had just put Sumitomos on the back, so I just went with those for the front. I love them, very smooth ride with no road noise.

Re: Any advice regarding OE Wheels
I've used OE wheels. They were super heavy and I wasn't impressed with the casting quality. I'd trust them for the street or maybe low speed autocross, but probably not for track days, HPDE or the like. For tires, look at the Nitto NT05. I put them on my Callaway twin turbo and they are my first choice for the ZR-1. Discount Tire Direct stocks the NT05.
