Default LT-5 Press Conference Intro Video

Brian R White was kind enough to share a copy of the LT-5 Press Introduction with me on VHS. I converted it to digital... maybe one of the most technical postings on the LT-5 ever shared.

Very cool. I've heard about the conference for years - Chris Allen, who was one of our Gathering attendees, said they assembled the LT5 while the speaker was talking and started it up live on stage. Incredible times! In addition to seeing the key folks from GM, MerCruiser and Lotus, Hib was right there in the audience. Lots of great technical information packed in there - I believe that was from Riverside in 1988.

Yep. I was there. It was staged at the Riverside Convention Center downtown and was held in conjunction with the long-lead press event for 1989 models Chevy staged at old Riverside International Raceway. Chevrolet treated us to tix for the NASCAR Cup race, the final event NASCAR would state at now-defunct, RIR, that weekend.

Indeed it was stunning event with two guys from Mercruiser bolting together an LT5 on stage while the key people from Corvette Development and Chevrolet Engineering made presentations about the engine's systems.

I have a VHS copy of that presentation, as well. One of these days, I ought to put that keepsake up for sale, I suspect, so someone in our hobby younger than myself can appreciate it.

Also, somewhere, I have a lot of black-and-white photography of the event.

Lastly, I think I have a story I wrote for Corvette Fever back then about that presentation. Unfortunately, it was written in '88 with some ancient software app which my current iMac Pro cannot open. I'll fool around a bit and see if I can find something with which to open that document. If I can do that, maybe it can be posted in the HotB.

Update:
I spent some time searching the hard drive which has all of my writing work back to about 1985 and found two stories I wrote in 1988, one on the ZR-1 and another on LT5. They were both written by an ancient Apple WP app called "MacWrite". Turns out, Libre Office, an open source software suite that competes with MS Office, will open those old MacWrite files?which is freakin' amazing. So...now I have the text. Next: find the black and white images.

Lee, thank you for your work in converting and sharing this. Brian, thank you for making it available! I have been looking for this video...or what I believe has been this video for years! Is there another video out there of Roy Midgely formally introducing the LT5 at a SAE event?

I was at the NCM for "The Gathering" in May 2010 and this video, or one like it was playing on the theatre screen for the lead up to that day's presentation. Regardless of which video this is, it is a very cool part of LT5/ZR-1 history!
