Default Oil Pressure Gauge Jitters Occasionally

My oil pressure gauge seems to work correctly most of the time. It reads about 40psi at idle and close to 80psi while driving. But sometimes the gauge will begin to jitter and read more than 80psi. After a 10-20s it will read normally again. It seems like an electrical issue, maybe related to heat. I checked the oil pressure sensor connector, didn't see anything obvious, it's dry and seems happy. Is this a known issue?

Replace the oil pressure sensor on the right front of the engine.

It’s the sensor!

Thumbs up Re: Oil Pressure Gauge Jitters Occasionally - SORTED

You are correct sir. I replaced the original unit with ACDelco D1808A and the gauge has been behaving.

Am l correct that there are 2 oil switch units. 1 for a low pressure light in the dash and 1 for the pressure gauge?
My pressure gauge is reading incorrectly, usually shows low when it’s ok.
Where can l get the replacement switch from?

Cheers from down under 🇦🇺

Jerry Downey has them.. Napa here in the States has aftermarket ones that have worked for me. I believe Jerry ships Int'l..

Yes, there are 2. Oil gauge sensor is on top (easy to change), oil pressure warning light switch is on bottom (more difficult).
