Hello all,

I know the rebuilding of the starter has been covered but in my searches I couldn't find the exact part numbers for the Denso rebuild kit. The links in the posts are no longer valid.

What rebuild kit should I be looking for?

beyond the brushes/plunger should I be replacing anything else?

Check with a Chrysler Dealer for parts, They use the same Nippon Denso starter in Dodge Trucks.

It was the contacts in my starter that were badly arced, the plunger cleaned up with some emery cloth. Contacts cost me $3.00, they are slightly larger on the contact face than the originals. Good Luck.

With the use of the 'Denso in so many applications I'd suggest a visit to a local rebuilder for just a parts buy. If you're unfamiliar with the repair maybe consider having the local shop do the "refresh" for you. I can think of NO reason that a person should need to consider the Internet purchase of the "packages". The local shop should do you well and be inexpensive also. The required parts will be "on the shelf" I'd think for sure.

thx gentlemen. thankfully this is a spare starter. wanted to try my hand at rebuilding one.

Bearly - what year/model Dodge trucks?

Don't know for sure, I just took my old contacts down with me, and the Parts guy found a set that would work. They are slightly larger than the originals, more contact face, but fit in the housing with no interferences.

Should be relatively recent model years, I would think. He had them on the shelf...

I believe as long as you're doing it you might as well do the plunger also. The 'Denso starter is a 128000-8281 I believe and an OE original GM # would have been a 1998585. It's a 1.4 KW series with CW rotation but I doubt that's of an concern. I really believe a visit to a local shop with the 'Denso number or the OE GM # might end up with the correct plunger and contacts. The shop would recommend I'm sure the heavier contact and there are plunger differences.

Nearly every import uses the 'Denso - parts are every where!
