Hayseed Buys A Brand New 1990 ZR-1
As embarrassing as this pic is, it was a fun time in my life. I had just checked out as a B737 Capt at the airline and had a little extra coin in my pocket. I went to Capitol Chevrolet in Nashville and bought a brand new ZR-1 in my favorite color. It had 21 miles on the odometer.
At the time, I owned a 1967 L-71 Corvette coupe that was originally purchased by the country music entertainer, Porter Waggoner. In the pic, the distinguished gentleman on the left, Jimmy Allen, was the general manager of the dealership. In 1967, he was the salesman that sold Porter the 1967 435. The tobacco chewing goofball on the right is me. After the pic was taken, I jumped in the Corvette and drove to Southport, NC. A lot of water under the bridge since then...

Those are neat pictures, thanks for sharing! Adds a whole new dimension. It is really great to see someone like yourself who still loves these cars after 33 years. Arguably, you have the holy grail now, with the '89 - so cool!

Not sure what happened to that car after I sold it. Somewhere in my basement hides all the original paperwork, even the temporary tag. I had it over 130 mph with a NC State Highway patrolman in the car with me😁 I was still single so, lots of good looking 'stewardesses' occupied the passenger seat. Good memories! |
