Re: What means "ZR-1"?
it's a classic rpo code from the 70's. Not sure it really means anything more then that. Lure says it stands for zora's racer

Re: What means "ZR-1"?
I believe for the C3 ZR1 it was an option code such as Z/28 was an option code for the Camaro,as far as the Z in the code Zora might of had something to do with it back then. Not sure ZR-1 is considered an option even though it looks like one.

Re: What means "ZR-1"?
It is an option, and an expensive one.
Look at your window sticker if you have one. Just an ordinary Corvette with a $25K performance option |

Re: What means "ZR-1"?
This is from an '88 GMSPO RPO list in the front of the catalog. Notice the years, the columns are RPO, FY (first year), LY (last year) and the RPO description, in this case KING OF THE HILL
Yes there were earlier but this is the earliest reference I've ever seen when the ZR-1 C4 is concerned. RPO's weren't used for GMSPO identifiers until '76 I believe so earlier references would have involved identifying from production and sales information. Earlier than '76 I don't ever recall seeing referenced in GMSPO publications other than medium and heavier trucks. Last edited by WVZR-1; 09-29-2015 at 06:04 PM. |

Re: What means "ZR-1"?
zora was big on initials. Even as a young boy he climbed up top of a apparatus his step father built and while nobody was looking etched his initials on it. to him it made it his. His personal car had ZAD etched on the drivers door. The first ZR-1 was a 1970 and it mimicked his zora racer 1969 white prototype he use to drive around in the proving grounds. He fought hard to get that LT-1 engine out and proceeded to make a club racer available to the public and was dubbed ZR-1. He then added a big block in 1971 and called it ZR-2. ZR was only used on very special corvettes. Zora did not want his initials on just any car. Zora Arkus was his name and the Duntov he picked up from his step father who was a engineer of power plants in Russia. Out of respect and honor he took his name and added it to his zora arkus duntov.
