I've seen some pretty mangled paint jobs on the plenum.
That's a class job right there !!

Wow am I glad I found this thread! I just bought a Z this past weekend and the worst part of the car cosmetically is the engine. The first owner did a rooky yellow paint job and the guy I bought it from did a quicky black paint job over the yellow. I am not 100% sure what color my car is. Probably spiral or cyber gray. I am thinking body color or silver or red wrinkle. Any good powder coaters in the Dallas TX area?

Look at Marc Haibeck's website for examples of various engine refinishing color schemes (zr1specialist.com). He has done just about everything at one time or another. Plus his overall knowledge of the ZR-1 is second to none. I am sure he would be glad to talk with you. -- Bob

I've always liked the coloring on this LT5.

Had a good talk with Marc. Really nice guy. I was surprised when he told me he doesn't powder coat but paints them. Has anyone gone with natural aluminum? I have seen some great aluminum manifold done with bead blasting with walnut shell.

I've never seen it. But I think it would look great. "Brushed" aluminum might look good too, but that texture would be tricky to achieve.

I like the polished aluminum, but my problem is that it can easily be mistaken for chrome. "Natural Aluminum" would be great.

I may just give this a try and if I don't like it, they will already be ready for power coating. The walnut shell media gives aluminum a little more gray tint. On the show cars I have seen this on it looked clean, aggressive and no non sense.

This was reported to be polished aluminum without clear coat.
