Default Resurection - Engine Wiring Harness

Engine Wiring Harness

Is the part number anywhere to be found on the main harness? Where?

I am sorting through my ’89 LT5 and have three or four different part numbers for that year given in different publications. And since I will forget what I did one year from now I thought I had better write it all down. It is not like anyone else, but Brett, Tyler, or Ed will ever be able to fix it. I have hear that, as of a year or so ago, Mike Yeager’s ’89 was still not running right.

What is interesting is that if you go back through old parts books, since the cars were released for production, you will find the part numbers listed. Up until a few years ago, some of the 1989 parts were still warehoused by GM and you could simply buy them from a local dealer because the system was never purged. Who said parts are not available?

I havqe a spare engine harness that will be used on #444 conv. I could repair it if I could lay it out next to my good harness. Spreatech Co. is just down the street from me. They make custom harnesses for street rod applications.

Thank you. I am not sure it is missed up yet. I have two motor harnesses. The early one is a bit different than the later one. Both are '89. I need to make sure nothing much moved between early and late '89 production. The later one is '89 NOS. Btw I found the PN. The last four digits are on a small tag just on the under dash portion where it passes thru the fire wall. I may need a few pieces though. I think the boys at GM drove the **** out of the car. There's a good chance that two pins on the DIS connector need switched, compared two the 90 up harnesses. 89 may or may not be the same as the production harnesses.

This knowledge was learned from Tyler.

George, When I compare t#004 to #074 there are several differences. One example is #004 does not have a secondary vacuum pump. Which harness are you going to use #010s?

Eric.

I have not decided which harness I will use. I was going to mock up and test as much as I can first. Make sure the parts and pins match before I crawl under the car to put it all in. They ARE different, but I have not chased all the details down yet. I also need to make sure the under dash harness interfaces with the motor harness.

I have two motors, #10 & #26. Both look the same. I only have the wiring from #10 and that looks like it was designed for an even earlier car. Its part number is not in my reference books.

I will post numbers & photos in a few days for reference and comparison.

Good to hear from you.

George

George, I can't always gaurantee a fast response but #004 runs and is complete and original. If you have specific questions about where a wire goes etc let me know and I will take a look. Eric

Didn't you send me these?

Are you using a 89 pilot ecm? Are you using an 89 dis module?

The above assumes 89 stuff, if you are mixing then I need to know so I can advise where thwe are wiring issues that need to be delt with.

Just picked Queenie up from Geoff but has valve issues tha will need addressing after NCM display. He also mentioned it cost GM about 200k per Phase 2 motor and all casting and foundry work was done in England for the Phase 1 and 2 engines.

Guys:

I just do not want to mix apples and oranges. If I were to blend and mix them together I doubt I would have a martini.

Yes Tyler, I sent those to you, but what I do not know is when the change you identified occurred or if there were other revisions. And I do not want to chase a short in a 30 year old pre-production harness after it is in the car. So I am checking it out sort of speak. In addition, I have four wiring part numbers I am working to. And some different documents including:
March ’87. The ’89 Product Description Manual shows part numbers 12067487/8 L&R.
April ’88. # 10, has part number XXXX0859. This is the wireing harness that I am planning on using.
Sept. ’88. The parts book shows 12080855. I do not have this harness, but I have the blueprints for the harness, which is helping.
Feb. ’89. My draft copy of the 1989 ZR-1 Electrical Manual.
Sept. ’89. The parts book shows 12090384. This I also have, a NOS one. For now, just a spare.
If you guys have any other documents that may help, I would appreciate it. If you would like copies of what I have, let me know.

To the question, I am using an '89 pilot ecm and an '89 DIS module.

If I get a moment this weekend, I will snap a photo of the operating room.
