Hot Rod Drag Weekend West
Date(s) - March 31, 2016 - April 3, 2016
Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park
20000 Maricopa Road - Chandler
HOT ROD’s Drag Weekend West is where the West Coast’s fastest Street-legal drag racers run three quarter-mile events in three days at two different tracks, driving their cars close to 500 miles along the way. This annual event will take place on Friday, April 1st through Sunday, April 3, 2016, with Registration/Test and Tune on Thursday, March 31st and will travel from Chandler (Phoenix), Arizona to Tucson, Arizona, and back to Chandler (Phoenix), Arizona.
For 2016, we’re breaking up the Drag Weekend events into different regions, so you East Coast guys will have your own Drag Weekend a little later in the year. Stay tuned, we’ll get you the information as soon as we successfully herd all of the cats.
There was also a strong push for Drag Weekend to be round-trip, which we’ve also accomplished. This makes the trip home a lot smoother and means that whatever method you used to arrive at Drag Weekend is waiting for you at the end of the entire trip; the guys who trailer their cars from across the country, or the guys who drive their street machines from anywhere, will have a consistent arrival and departure plan. Additionally, the rules have not changed from Drag Weekend 2015, see below.
The 2016 HOT ROD Drag Weekend West will kick off Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona, for registration, vehicle tech inspection, and test-and-tune opportunities for all participants. Day 1 racing will be held at the Wild Horse Pass facility. Day 2 will bring racers to Tucson Dragway in Tucson, Arizona, before spinning everyone back toward Wild Horse Pass for the final rounds on Day 3. Spectators are more than welcome to show up watch throughout the event.
THREE DAYS OF COMPETITION:
• Race Day 1: Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, AZ.
• Race Day 2: Saturday, April 2, at the Tucson Dragway in Tucson, AZ.
• Race Day 3 and Award Ceremony: Sunday, April 3, at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, AZ.
RACING FORMAT:
HOT ROD Drag Weekend West is a spin off of our hugely successful Drag Week competition, which the ultimate test of what it means to be one of the world’s quickest street cars. All cars must be street-legal, and must travel approximately 500 miles of pot holes, two-lane highway, rush hour traffic, and every other bit of nonsense that you’d expect to a street car to suffer through, while also stopping at a drag strip each day in an attempt to lay down the best time possible in a quater-mile time-trial. At the end of the week, the best run from each day is averaged into your final score, with the lowest average e.t. (elapsed time) winning the class – though our Street Machine Eliminator class will use their average e.t. to qualify for a top-32 bracket racing shootout on the final day of Drag Weekend to determine the class winner. What makes a fast drag car doesn’t tend to make for a reliable street car, so Drag Weekend pushes drivers and builders to think differently when it comes to crafting something that’s not only quick on the drag strip, but also reliable on the road.
PARTICIPANT REGISTRATION:
To register for Drag Weekend West 2016, go here.
Experienced drag-racers and enthusiasts alike are encouraged to register and join HOT ROD Drag Weekend West. Pre-Registration (limited to 350 participants) is now live on a first-come, first-served basis at $250 per vehicle for all three days, including the driver, one passenger, and one goody bag. Vehicles may only compete in one class. If there are fewer than 350 entries when onsite registration concludes on Thursday, March 31, at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona, wait-list entries present onsite will be accepted.
PARTICIPANT RULES:
Click here to view or download Drag Weekend West 2016 rules.
SPECTATOR INFORMATION
Admission is $5 for test and tune on March 31, 2016, and $10 for all race days (April 1–3, 2016) for ages 13 and over. Tickets will be available at each individual track.
