Default Canadian ZR-1 insurance ?

My friend in Canada complains that Canadian BC (www.icbc.com) states that a collector vehicle has to be 25 years old and in mint stock condition or 15 years old and that manufacturer has not produced that model for at least 5 years, which he feels should be applied to most all ZR-1s., not so according to the administrator, she says they still build Corvettes.
The model refers to Corvette not ZR1. The ZR1 is in catagory #1 which is the highest catagory with the super hi performance vehicles, in contrast something like a Civic is catagory #4. This costs Canadian ZR-1 owners $1500/yr more than it would be if it qualified for collector class insurance
Canadians have nothing like our collector car Insurance
Is this unique to BC or all Canadian provinces ?
I told him not to move south of the border; we'll soon have Canadian style Med insurance and probably will get Canadian style auto insureance if it'll give our Gov more tax $$ and control of our lives

Several people in my local club use Silver Wheels insurance and have reported good things.

I don't because it looks a bit restrictive for my tastes.

Don't know if that is of any help.

I have used Silver Wheels Insurance for the last 14 years. The last 3 years I have had a ZR-1 on my Silver Wheels policy. I have it insured for 12 months for $240.00. Your friend in B.C. is getting shafted and needs to shop around. There are LOTS of insurance companies who want new customers. Tell your friend to do his homework and find an honest insurer.

It is tempting to switch to Silver Wheels, but I fear for how much hassle one might have if you have an incident on the way home from work one of those five or six days you take it in or you take it to your favourite restaurant rather than take the daily driver. I asked a few questions about how restirctive some of the clauses really are, and they did not respond. As of now, I am paying $175/month with no restrictions, but when I take collission of from Nov to April, the rate drops to about the equivalent of $700/year. It's not a slam dunk decision it would seem.

I believe it is only in BC where we suffer with monopoly government auto insurance - thanks to the idiocy of electing a radical socialist provincial government 30 or so years ago. ICBC has a monopoly on basic insurance, you can buy extra coverage (collision, etc) through other carriers.

My 67 costs me about $300/year on a collector plate (with restrictions on use), but the 90 ZR1 is $1450/year (no restrictions)
