Differential fill plug tool size
Stupid question, but what would be the correct tool to remove the differential fill plug? I tried 8 and 10 mm metric allen wrenches but neither really fits.
Is it an imperial size? Or just super uncommon 9mm? Thanks!

I could not remember what I bought, but I have a long hex just for this purpose. It might be a 9mm as Chris states in this video. Someone mentioned a 3/8 hex is it and I am guessing it might be what I have. 9mm does not sound familiar and why the heck would GM use metric, but we have a mishmash bag of metric and SAE all over the car.

Just in case when you are under the Differential, you can add another "Removable Plug"
 Just to make sure you have clean Differential Oil  Post 147 - ZR1 Added Systems including Differential Case Drain

It's a 9mm - uncommon size but available (Lisle #33960).
3/8 works out to 9.5mm - doubtful to fit. |

The rear differential is produced not by GM but by Dana Spicer. I've rebuilt a number of these and every component in it, including the bolts and fill plug, are based on imperial dimensions. Here is a photo of a 3/8" hex socket fitted in the fill plug. IMG_2896.JPG
