Default Exhaust / Header questions

This is a general question, when installing headers what is your opinion or ( facts) about is it better to ceramic coat the headers or to use Header wrap? or Both?
also, I got a price on having the headers coated and they do a Quality job but they want $350 to coat the headers ( inside and out ).
Thanks for any advise .

Well, there IS a 3rd option: DO Neither!

Stainless headers do not rust, & far as esthetics go, you'll have to be UNDER the car to appreciate the looks (assuming you coat them), b/c the cam covers are so close to the frame rails seeing the headers (read: admire them) is difficult @ best. (Might only see the first inch...maybe.)

That leaves heat as the only practical reason to coat or wrap them. Well, I've had mine (bare stainless) since 2009 and I've never felt any discomfort - including when on some long trips in summer weather.

I decided not to cover or coat mine: never regretted it. And, i figured that was a decision i could revisit later if i changed my mind...which I haven't.

You're mileage may vary...

Well, when you can zero in on some particulars, there's plenty of folks here that are willing and able to help get it straight.

Welcome to the BROTHERHOOD OF THE BEAST!! (And, the Registry!)

I had mine coated and while what Paul states is true I love the look. After 10 years they still look great no discoloration or stains.

I have a set of SW headers and I left them "Au Natural". The LT5 headers are so "tucked up" under the head and hard to see that I think that any application for appearance may be a waste.

Where were you going to send them to have the headers coated?

I installed SW headers on my '90 and had them coated prior to installation. If I were to do it again I would keep the stainless look and save the money. As others have stated, headers are difficult to see from the top and the only mechanics that would appreciate the look from the bottom are (hopefully) the only mechanics that you will ever let touch your Z.
