Got rid of my 2002 busa. I have a road king and my wife rides 884 low. I probably would be dead if I kept the busa. It was like death riding my busa with my wife and her Harley. I gave in for comfort and my life. That busa was insanely fast. I pretty much hit top speed on it on rt91 in Vermont. My buddy was on his Harley going about 80 mph and I went by him like he was going backwards. I hope I don't loose my license driving this z-it is always tempting to drop a gear mash the throttle. I am 48 going on 18.

I don't plan on ripping heads off and doing all sorts of porting. The most I would ever do would be full exhaust and eliminate the cats. What would this give me and would it be even worth doing? It is mind blowing fast as is. I wouldn't have time to do it and I would never ship it to have it done.
I would sell this and look for a modified one already done before doing all of the work.

He's got a pretty good rundown on what to expect form upgrades.
BTW, you get used to the power pretty quick. My car is currently getting top end porting and cams. I hope this is enough, because next is more cubes and I'm hoping not to go down that road.

Paul... I've done a lot but no motor work. Big brakes. Chassis braces. New A-arms, bushings, and shocks. Bigger front sway bar. Is there an easier route to porting than Haibeck? I can install some long tube headers at home, but would need the porting and a new chip.
There are several ppl that have done LT5 porting; Marc's is one that is a well known quantity, but others have done it as well. Pete is another local guy that has done a good deal of porting and development work on the LT5 - including cams.

Top-end porting (limited to the plenum and IHs and some upper - half of the head runners) can be a DIY project, WITH the proper ball gauge(s) and tools. Rear wheel HP can be increased from around 335 stock to 400+ with the addition of headers to augment the porting.

Full porting, including the heads, is prolly best left to the experts, as some special runner shape considerations are needed to maximize results w/o breaching either oil or water galleries. And, too, that would be an excellent time to install some of Pete's cams! As such, RWHP would easily be in the 450s - not too bad from a 350 cid motor with good manners!

Thanks, Paul. I am likely to do just the porting and headers, assuming that cams are going to give me that lopey idle. I want it to sound fairly stock and really don't need or want more power than that would provide. I'm on the east coast, but probably will use Marc.

Careful with the ZF 6th gear, its for maintaining cruise speed on flat highway only. No pulling, accelerating, or pressure on that gear whatsoever.
World Record Run was done in 5th gear with a rear-end ratio change to 3.07 from 3.45.

I did not know that ... Interesting . I am sure if you were doing a run somewhere you could use 6th for bit no ?
Just curious as to why it is not recommended .

Thanks for the info, but I have made numerous 1.5 mile runs going into to 6th aprox 170MPH, 7K in 5th with 4.10,s, no problem, Bill B ZFDOC magic, car pulled to 181 MPH at 1.5 mile, then drove the car home 7 hours

I had a different experience on the highway in 6th when transmission grenaded. After a bunch of research and talking to other owners, the advice was the same ...careful with 6th. I'm actually about to install one of Bill Brodreau black tag into my car now, along with new clutch, master, and slave. Hopefully have the same bullet proof reliability some of you guys enjoy.
