I just put a Bendpak HD-9 four post lift in with a 10 feet ceiling and have plenty of clearance for working under the car standing up and I'm a little taller than you. I can raise the Z to the lift's max height and still have about 4" left for releasing the locking dogs. Any more than 10 ft. ceiling height would be a waist unless you got an extra tall lift.

the picture your looking at is with my Stingray on top & it's sitting two clicks lower than my rear lift because of the door operator (side mount jackshaft operators were not availible up here when i was ordering my door from Liftmaster) if you look close you'll see the light for the operator above the car. so to answer your question, you can't stand under the front lift but the rear lift you'd have lots of room. i question why some have to have a 12' or even 14' ceilings? most times i see it turn out as a waste, IMO.

I converted my 8 ft. door over to a torsion bar spring setup and went with the Liftmaster model 3800 sidemount garage door opener. Swaped the vertical rails out to those used for an 8 ft. high door. Except for the shaft got everything online at ProDoor (great price and fast delivery):
http://www.prodoorparts.com/products/167.cfm
Mike there was very helpful in putting together everthing needed for the conversion.
Picked the shaft up from local Home Depot, 10 ft. section of 3/4" inch regular pipe.
