Where did you get them? The Nitto NT-05's are $640 a set shipped right now. If the R888's were in the ballpark I would give them a shot.

Well I missed out on the sale for the Nitto's. I see more positive feedback on the Toyo's as well. I am not looking at goodyears right now as this will be used on the track this year. I want something that is okay to run on the street but decent on the track.

Re: Toyo vs. Nitto

I have Nitto NT05 tires (for track use only) and they have held up great.

But, I doubt anyone would want to run these on the street because they have very little tread. They are about as close to a slick as possible for a DOT tire.

I don't have any experience with other Nitto models.

I know it's not practical for many, but having separate tires/wheels for the street and track is great. I'm hoping my street Goodyears last a long time.

Nope. The ones for turning corners. :-)

Re: Toyo vs. Nitto

Here is the skinny on all of the tires seeing as how I have had or currently have them.

Toyo RA1 were the predecessor to the triple 8, RA1 were an excellent Dry/Wet tire that I would have recommended to everyone, Triple 8 are great tire when it is dry, However they are slick when it is wet.

Nitto NT05 is a good all around tire, it is an average track tire. They do handle well in heavy rain at 70. In my experience this tire does have a slight roll when hot.

Now lets talk about the tire I would compare to the RA1, Nitto has the 555 G2. This tire is down right phenomenal, Sticky when it is dry and the tire is warm, Man! does it move water when it is wet.
Last year I was driving my Pace car home from Indy, I hit a rain storm at 85mph, Not once did the traction control engage.

NT-01 I have never had these tires, so I would rather not comment on them.

With that being said, The 888 and any R rated Nitto need to be heat cycled.

bought nitto 555 for the fronts of my z06 and nitto 555r for the rears. 555r hooks like crazy even with my very powerful second gear shift, the 305 35 18 sticks hard. 555 fronts are summer performance tire with 300 treadwear rating. the 555 r rears have 100 treadwear race compound. they are not too bad in the rain at 65 either. Just cant get too low on the treads. car handles like a track car with these tires. love them.

Re: Toyo vs. Nitto

wanted to get the 555's in the front to plow through the rain water first and keep the front on the ground. the 555 r's dont channel the water as well as the 555's so I did if for safety. My biggest problem is that without a 100 compound rear tire I will have excessive wheel spin 1 2 and 3rd gears. the 555 r does an excellent job on dry pavement and keeps the car planted.
