I think there's a big difference between the low end orange fram filter and the higher end gray ones being discussed for the LT5.

FWIW...........I thought that I got a lot more ''chain rattle'' on start up when I was using the Mobile 1 filters. I went to the Bosch and it seems a lot better as I don't rmemeber when the last time I heard a ''rattle''.

Kevin,

Totally understood and I thought or assumed that Fram was cheap garbage until I read the information from Marc H. I know there may be a lot of opinions about all of this and I know diddly squat about oil filters so I trust Marc who actually tested stuff for our LT5 and the upside down designed filter and no benefit to him to put all the effort into this:

I believe the Mobil filter was the best filter going quite a few years ago other than for the flow-back. I've been using these since I could no longer get the factory ones and have had no issues. The flow-back doesn't matter to me since I had Marc H install a pre-lube system on my car... turn the key on and wait about 10 seconds (much quicker if it hasn't been sitting for days) to pressurize and start her up, no rattles and purrs like a kitten from the first second running... love it!!:)

Is there any filters nowadays that out performs the Mobil filter other than the back flow on it?

Has anyone tried Amsoil filters?

I'm all ears on this one too. I was going to buy the AMSOIL preluber after watching a Two Guys Garage years ago and then AMSOIL stop making it. I know there are others like Canton Racing, etc. but sounds like a great thing to have on our motors with oil start up, upside down filters, etc.

It's an original "pre-luber"... http://www.pre-luber.com/index.htm

I got the marine version back in 1995 and had Marc H install it. He wired it to the ignition so when you turn it forward to accessory the pump runs, once I have pressure on the gauge I turn the key forward to the start position and the pump automatically cuts out and the engine fires immediately and runs smooth as can be. Haven't had any problems as is usual with all work done by the "ZR-1 Specialist". Another benefit of a smooth start is no rough idle tranny rattle due to the fidanza.

If I get a chance tomorrow I'll post a few pictures.

Would love to see the photos and maybe Marc could do a write up on the install?
